I've only seen the "kinetic" style straps used in mud situations where you are attempting to "pop" the vehicle out of the mud. I can't see using it in other situations.... maybe deep snow?
Only those SOUTHERN California people put "the" in front of freeway numbers. We Northern Californians are normal. That's one way you can always tell a southern Californian.
You only put "the" if you use the tribute/memorial/historical names, such as "The MacArthur Freeway" or "The Nimitz."...
Military folks get pass on the "tourist" thing.
You also get a pass on having to register and SMOG your vehicle in California. Just keep your military ID with you, and you might have to explain this to a rookie cop or CHiPy who stops you.

Moab Utah would make a good destination.
Almost centrally located in the US.
Easter Jeep Safari and several other large organized runs go there every year, so logistics with large groups shouldn't be difficult to figure out.
Moab also has a variety of trails and levels of difficulty...
People are to busy wrenching on their rigs and getting outdoors....
Problem is, if we don't think and act politically now- tomorrow we my find that those that do have taken away all of our opportunities to use our chosen method of recreation in the outdoors.

For all those who want more oportunities to test their vehicles and develope their skills, but unfortunately can't get into the 60 rig limit for the OB trip- there are many other organizations out there to soothe your cravings.
I'm in CA, but I'm sure these types of orgs exist all over...
