@ttephotos - sorry, I'm not a good judge of the safety question. I'm just diving into the RTT approach. Perhaps someone more seasoned around here can help.
We borrowed the 6 person version from a buddy last summer for a quick 2 day trip. My only concern was with the strength of the floor material. In the 6 person version the hub for all the poles packs back onto the center of the floor which was quickly wearing thin. I reinforced with some Gear Aid...
We took the plung. The wife fell in love with the design and it looks to line up perfectly with our new trailer. Only question now is how long til delivery. Scaling up production can be a product killer. Hope thats not the case here.
My wife was generally not a camping kind of gal and has some back issues. This pad is what finally got her into the tent. When on solo trips I now steal her mat. Just got a second twin size with my REI member coupon and dividends. Can't say enough good about the product. #restinpeace
@ram6 my suggestion is to purchase and have shipped directly to me. My wife and I are happy to test out the larger size. Doing this purely out of the kindness of my heart. :)
Got the Exped last summer for the family camping. My wife has back issues so a good pad is essential. Honesty, it's a great pad. Durable and super comfortable. It has an R value better than most air mattresses (which are zero) and easily inflated. I have a number of Exped products and have had...
The cases being "water-proof not water-tight" makes me a little hesitant. Feel like the seal might be source of leaking in rain, especially driving during rain.
@krax -- Gotcha, I was confused. I have been impressed how long they last on the batteries. And the kids love the fading and color changing lights... :)
I have this small charger. It works great and has been indestructible. If you go this route I recommend buying direct from power practical, the maker. I had a different battery from them, now discontinued. I emailed pp and they shipped me a brand new unit with apologies. I like to support...
I don't know of any solar options but I have the Luminoodles are they are great. Big Anges offers a similar product. I also somehow ended up with a set of Eno string lights a random REI visit. They are more fun by they change colors and dim. Run on a couple batteries. Kids love them in the...
@Chaoswest that is a great invitation. I enjoy helping other folks learn to fish nearly as much as fishing myself. Well, I like fishing more. But that is really a great offer from you.
Last summer the family camped in 11 mile canyon. Took kids to river in the catch and keep section. Was...
My experience with the Coleman and other quick pop tents is that you need to protect the center of the floor. Otherwise you'll find a hole in the floor from the quick stand mechanisms rubbing against.
Or just get some nice duck tape and create a strong spot.

Ive been using the original jet boil for a number of years now. Great stove. I still carry it hiking and use it family camping for coffee for the Mrs and I. Boils water in 2-3 minutes.
I have heard good things about the base camp set you recieved. Look forward to hearing about your experience.
