Interesting. I lived in Texas (Odessa/Midland) and now live in Utah. I loved the Guadalupe Mountains. Used to hike to Guadalupe Peak at least once a month. Now I have a hundred peaks to climb. What part of Texas are you living now??
That's great. I love amateur radio. Mostly use it as emergency comms and for Summits on the Air (SOTA). Fun activity that goes hand-in-hand with overlanding. Glad you're a member. Dont' forget to request an upgrade to your account. The member map is nice to see other Overland Bound Members...
Hello Josh,
Used to own a JKUR. I just joined Overland Bound as a member. Super simple to do and worth the ticket price. Quality emblems, patches, stickers, etc. The membership is priceless. So much information on the forums. Join to get access to the member map and other informative...
Hello Mojave Jack. Welcome. Don't forget to request an upgrade to your account in order to get access to the members map and other forum areas. I spent a year in Seoul one week for business. The heat was unbearable. They had a power outage when we were driving in the city (somewhere) and...
There are the normal amateur radio clubs. Salt Lake City has an active one. I belong to the Wasatch Back Tri-County Amateur Radio Club. This includes Morgan, Summit, and Wasatch Counties. There are others all over the state. You can also join some of the local and state emergency...
Great 2-meter coverage. If you do a search for the VHF Society, it will list the intertie repeaters. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to do some additional research for you.

Good Luck on your Technicians exam. With just a little time studying, you should have no problem passing the test. That will open you up to the 2-meter repeaters in the area. With the Intermountain Intertie Repeater System, you can talk to other hams from Idaho, Wyoming, all the way to Las Vegas.
I love it. Wish I had more time for it. Started when I lived in TX. Now that I live in Utah the summits are endless.

Sorry, I didn't see that thread. I should have reviewed that first but was posting to related recreation. I guess it's not exactly recreation but related to recreation. HA!! Getting to the top of the mountain is the recreation. National Parks on the Air is also a related amateur radio...
Concerning the topic of "Overland Related Recreation", I have several. Being new to the Overland side one of the things that will go great with Overlanding is Amateur Radio. I won't get into the details but the basic idea of SOTA is to ascend to the top of a mountain listed on the SOTA website...
Welcome aboard. I'm a new member and new to overlanding but not the outdoor side of it. Had the same thought. "This sounds like a good fit". Travel to CO every month. See you on the trail.

So true about being invincible. I drove from Salt Lake City to Butte, MT today and for some reason most of the cars in the ditch were of the 4 wheel drive kind. Maybe they meant to be there. :openmouth:
Post your winter overland and winter camping tips:
Tip #1) A 10% chance of snow in your camping vicinity means there is 100% chance that it will snow on your campsite. Just plan on it!!
