I made mounts for mine for less than $10... some steel, all threads, nylocks, rubber hose, a drill, and a cut off wheel... you can see them in my build thread:

Double d-rings are super strong and good at keeping things on, which is why DOT and SNELL (and that other European standard I forget about that Shark uses) use them for helmets, requiring them to stay on someone’s head during an accident. They very rarely fail...
The quick straps are used by...
I don’t get it... there is no link to click on, and a google search of the title doesn’t reveal anything... help?

I have a dual outlet usb charger for my cigarette lighter... it has an iphone slot and an ipad slot. The ipad slot delivers more current. The ipad won’t even show charging when plugged into the iphone slot...
I can’t remember the current output of each, but I bought it at best buy with an...
Hello all...
I’m looking for some advice here. I have this ongoing build (see here: https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/2003-ford-expedition-full-size-overland-build.11553/)
It’s a 2003 Ford Expedition that includes a 1” EMT roof rack welded by a professional welder, internally...
You’re welcome! I knew we needed some basic recovery gear before we started, so I did get that, but I think the key to our fun so far is:
1) No jeep trails with big rocks. We try and stick with forest service roads, but we do enjoy a good water crossing.

I use it on a 128GB iPad Air2, in conjunction with a Bad Elf GPS PRO+.
I also keep all our music on the iPad, which feeds our head unit while overlanding, and I keep 50 iTunes movies on there in case the kids meltdown...

Agreed the 4Runner is a great platform... if I didn’t have 3 daughters, a family dog, and all the stuff to pack, that’s what I would be driving... plus aftermarket support is second to none on the Toyotas.
Right out of the box they are very capable, whereas the other vehicle you mentioned needs...
Got the Maxtrax (knock-offs) mounted yesterday. Used 5/16-18 all thread, some steel, and rubber fuel line to cover the all thread and basically rubber mount the maxtrax.... nuts on top for now. Security nuts or padlocks coming soon...
Also mounted the shovel with 89 cent conduit clamps and...
GoodYear Wrangler DuraTracs came with the Expedition and I love them. Haven’t gotten stuck yet! I think when the Open Countrys wear out on my F150 it may get DuraTracs also.
On another note... the Lifetimes are built tough, readily available, and have a 5 year warranty that they really back up if something goes wrong...

We use a 4’ lifetime plastic folding table with adjustable height, $39, stored under the roof rack. We also have an MSR nested cookset for 4, and their kitchen utensil kit.
