Orange the 1999 Amigo: here we go

Good morning and happy Easter to all. I have finally started to get my rig on the road and get shenanigans done. To simplify the tale of the little rig: I got this rig, like the last one, from an online auction, but I learned my lesson and didn't try to find something across the country. This...

    Future NY Meet-ups

I work in Western New York, and live just over the border in PA. Working on getting my new rig ready for spring...will be eager to see what you all come up with.

    Reddy the Daihatsu Rocky

I have been (or was) a frequent participant on DROG. The bumper I have was pieced together from Zuk Offroad, a few different items all cobbled together.

    Pa roll call

Sorry for the delay in posting! My avatar vehicle is dead, but the new one is on the way to readiness. Northwest part of PA here.

Odd Ball rigs. Who else has an outside of the norm rig?

As you can see my my avatar, I had a Rocky: I spent a lot of time to get it running, but two head gaskets in 300 miles was enough for me. No good locations for a new engine in the US that doesn't already have cooling problems. Still have a "perfect" dashboard and soft top and other...

    Isuzu Amigo

Will do. I won't hijack your thread, but I'm still in the mode of "clean this thing up," "what does it need to get inspected," and "what sort of upgrades will I do." I'm going to reuse the bumpers from my last little rig (with modifications, of course) and add the second battery there, too. You...

    Reddy the Daihatsu Rocky

After a few months of fooling around with it, a close inspection showed that the dreaded head gasket was the least of the worries. The head (side closest to the firewall) had a crack in it, running the depth of the whole head, and the top of the block had a crack in the same (approximate)...

Yeah, the hope is that I'll kick the engine problems once and for all....with a new engine. But, here's to hoping. I guess I'll simply take the time to do it right.

Unclear where the air and water are coming from. No oil where it shouldn't be, but I'm drinking a lot of coolant and so on. Like I said, at this point, I just can't take this any distance. I was in the closest woods to me and we nearly ate it, badly.

    Reddy the Daihatsu Rocky

Hello to one and all. You might run into this story in a few places on the internet as I look for advice, but my Rocky engine is no more. A quick engine summary: when I first got it, I changed the fluids and started it up. I blew a hose. So I replaced that hose. Then, I started it up again. I...

Hey PA guy looking for trails

I'm sorry to hear that: that doesn't make me feel better at all, but at least you didn't have to get towed home. Ask me how fun that is. I'm hoping to get the compression test done this weekend, but all signs point to being taken off the road long-term until we can start really making a mess...

Hey PA guy looking for trails

OK, so here's what we have. No contamination in the oil. I have videos of the coolant; I thought it was oil bubbling up, but the coolant is completely clear and clean; someone used stop leak or some such in there in the past. Previous owner shenanigans. However, bogs badly when it runs. When...

Hey PA guy looking for trails

Boys, I'm out. It's a head gasket. Summer fun appears over before it's begun.

Hey PA guy looking for trails

Oh, don't worry: I don't know what I'm doing. There are some things I can do, and some things I know, but after I accidentally destroyed the electrical system in a K5 Blazer I was trying to do stuff with, I outsource anything that I don't know, and don't feel bad about it. I had the head done...

Hey PA guy looking for trails

I'll try again to get the tstat in, so I can see if that will do anything, but the coolant is going somewhere...and it's not cooling in any case, so I have to get this sorted out so I don't end up with a big red lawn ornament.

Hey PA guy looking for trails

Fun fact is that my Rocky did not HAVE a thermostat in it. We have a new and significant concern; if it didn't have one...why did it overheat so fast? Now we're looking at a possible water pump problem. The radiator has good flow...so if it's not the water pump, with a new head and good flow...

Hey PA guy looking for trails

I'm throwing the new thermostat in today after work, and giving the old Sea Foam a try prior to an oil change. Then, pending my cooling results, trying some other shenanigans this week as well. This Sunday (as of now) is supposed to be a high in the mid 60's at least. Hoping to have at least...
