I definitely have my work cut out for me with this. It has a bad brake line, the tires need replaced, and there's a whole host of wiring issues, unfortunately. I'm working to get it ready for the trip, but we'll see. Although, to be honest, the bigger issue will be getting that much leave...
I went out today to make a list of all the things that I know that the FJ60 needs, and it's a pretty long list. So far it seems like it's things that I can do, though, so I'm optimistic. One of the things that I checked was the brake system, as I wanted to get an idea of what was wrong. The...
Well, after having sold the 81 due to serious rust issues, and having been away from it for almost 6 months, I realized that I just couldn't stay away from the 60 series, so when I saw this guy on the market, I couldn't resist. It's a 1986 FJ60 that's been swapped to a 13B-T engine. So far I've...
I completely changed the vehicle that I ended up buying. I was originally planning on getting a 95 FZJ80, but then I found an 86 FJ60 for the same price that had been 13B-T (Toyota 4 banger turbo diesel) swapped for the same price, and couldn't pass it up. I'm still on track to have it ready for...
I've gone through them, and have made a checklist. With any luck, the Land Cruiser will be set up for it, but at minimum the Ranger will be ready to go.
I just added myself to the list, and am really hoping to be able to go on this, for at least part of the trip. I'm active duty Air Force (Space Force in February), though, so I don't know how things will go, especially this far out. Assuming I'm able to go, I'm picking up a 95 triple locked...
I've definitely considered a diesel, but I think I ultimately won't get one. It's very difficult to get anything approaching the same bang for your buck as an SBC or LS swap with a diesel swap, and there is significantly less parts availability for diesels than the SBC/LS.
All right, so it's been while since I updated this thread. I realized that I didn't get good pictures of the frame rust that I'm dealing with, so I've attached some better ones. The frame rails are splitting on both the driver's and passenger side right above the front leaf spring mounts, and I...
I haven't updated this thread in a bit, but I decided to keep moving forward with it. The frame, while concerning, isn't horrific. So, the current plan is to keep building it. My current goal is to get it to daily drive-able. There's a decent list of things to do for that. I'm continuing with...
I have to have at least 14 days notice to get leave approved anyway, so I was thinking we could plan the trip for early to mid August if people were interested in joining
Let's make it happen, then. Weekends, particularly Saturdays, are usually best for me. Anyone have a good place for a meetup? Also, I'm thinking of trying out a Flagpole Knob trip, would there be any interest in making it an actual Rally Point trip?
Here's the frame rot that I'm seeing. Anyone have input on where to go with it? I really want to keep it, and I'm honestly leaning towards just doing a frame-off restomod of it, but I don't know. If I do, it won't be because I ever hope to get money out of it. The Rolling Turd is a hobby...
All right, so I tried to get the OME kit on twice now, and have hit some decent roadblocks with both attempts. The first time I tried, the lugnuts wouldn't come off. Turns out the electric impact wrenches my uncle had were old and tired, so they weren't enough to bust them off. Then, because we...
