HAHA! My same sentiment! If it would rain in CA for a couple days and not one every now and then, I would drive through the mud on first day and then let rain and undercarriage sprinkler do the rest...but we aren't that lucky here! I guess rain doesn't like paying taxes, cause it doesn't hang...
When you go to user, then contact info, the bottom portion says "Identities," for social media names ie. Yahoo IM, Skype etc. There should be an IG account space also.
Thanks for responses. M
Contact Details---> Identity
Can an IG account be added here? There is Skype, Yahoo IM etc, but it appears that MANY of the users use IG for posting pics and info....Can IG be added as an "Identity?"
Just a thought, not world ending.
Thanks,
Mike
Nice build and a capable vehicle. I've always liked the Suburu's and it it good to see so many aftermarket parts available for them.
A year ago, I saw an older Suburu Outback (I think, it looked like a wagon, 4 door hatchback model) that was lifted and was on what looked like 33's! I was...
I, I, I just have no words for how awesome these are. I was watcing Youtube offroad videos the other night (OK, every night...) and came across these trailers. I have seen them before, but now that I have a greater affinity for overlanding and vehicle camping, I am just in awe of these...
What an awesome Jeep! That is very unique! I love the old markings on the tailgate= 4wheel drive.
Keep us updated on the project.
Is there a way to insulate the cargo area? The metal seems like it would make for a challenging environment in cold/hot weather.
Anyone ever heard of or use the MURS channels? They are unlicensed HAM frequencies, but are not used as often as the usual licensed freq's. We have started using them for off-road and "off radar" Search and Rescue usage as needed.
Here they are:
151.820 MHz (11.25 kHz)...
8 rungs seemed appropriate for the size. I could add more later I suppose. For tension, I use the rubber bungee straps you can get at HF also. They are cheap, but work well for the chains. They pull very tight and ride well on the rim (so as to not scratch the rims or mare the tires.)
With...
35" tire chains jump in price some from the 33" as far as I could tell at the time I built them last year. For $70 and some elbow grease and burning metal, I thought it a better deal.
I am a believer in rear axle mounting. It's what CHP recommends for 4WD and from experience, I am more...
...I'm just shocked and like the fact the word "principles" was used with an off-road/outdoor forum and community. You don't see that much on any of the "other forums," as it is more a free for all and can be quite unwelcoming to some. If the moderator and @Michael (who puts the "pal" in...
~Figured with the winter months approaching...those who like to drive in the snow, and/or camp in the snow may need a new set of chains. The principle will work for any size tire that will fit chains (not cables) and will save quite a bit of $$$.
Built my own Snow Chains for my 35s. Used...
Made my own Mikeybilt tailgate table for my JKU a while back. Figured I'd share it here as it may be cheap, easy inspiration for members here on OB.
What I got for the build was:
1) 11.8" x 23.8" black shelf ($6 at Home Depot, black)
2) Magnetic strip ($5 at Harbor Freight)
3) 2 hinges ($3...
Hey All,
Below is some excerpts from a training I did for basic radio communication principles, practices and best practices. This was for the SAR Team, however, has civilian/everyday use also. Just figured I'd share as it is pertinent to Overlanding. I am planning to get my Ham License soon...
I agree with @w_m_photo ; when you go above 3" lift, you change a lot of the geometry of the vehicle, especially front- steering, drive shafts and even exhaust. You may have to buy exhaust spacers as with a 3.5" and plus lift, your front driveshaft may hit your exhaust tubing crossing from...
Also, park facing or away from water, not vertical to water. I've seen wind blow sand hard enough to bury tires in sand drift. Also, as wind blows inland from water, it reduces the sand blowing into your rig! And lastly, air down!
