I used to use storage bins, but moved to soft packs. Easier to pack and more efficient on space IMO. Plus, I hate digging through large bins just to find something buried at the bottom. That said, I don't have a pickup and don't have to deal with locking, moisture, or dust getting in. Nor do I...
I have nothing on my roof but a pair of Maxtrax, and hope I never need to put anything else up there (so far I can fit our family of 4, small dog, and all gear for up to a week inside the truck). Weight up that high is the worst, especially for a guy like me who has a heavy foot and prefers 80 -...
Wife and I use cots with REI 3.5 camp bed on top. Super comfy. I would not recommend relying on an air mattress to worst enemy, burned too many times, waking up on the ground will ruin a trip. Just don't do it haha.

Most of the off the shelf charging solutions don't charge at a high enough voltage (over 14.4V needed for most AGMs), heck my factory alternator needs a diode to trick it to charge at a higher voltage. And what happens is the AGMs since they don't get the full charge fail prematurely. Standard...
I thought you bought a 200 series? Feel like I know you from Mud haha... Or I could easily just be confused.

I was in this area in May, agree for Zion the Gooseberry Mesa area is a good spot to setup camp in order to access Zion pretty easily, there are also first come first service pay-sites w/in the park but that's about as close as you'll get. If you're heading towards or from Bryce Canyon, there's...
Looking for input from those who've explored Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Hoping to travel from the southwest entrance to northeast exit. I called the local office and they said Engesser Pass and Bighorn Pass can be quite challenging depending on conditions but could not confirm current...
Agree it depends on crew. Basics for me would be #1 my jetboil setup (original version). #2 is my backup Coleman stove. #3 a built in kitchen setup where everything has it's place a ready to go.

Love the conversation. If you can build it often better to do so. Consider though how much engineering some of these companies go through, and iterations of each product to get it right. What I mean is not all are created equal, so also weigh the quality of what you can produce vs buy. Also...
Yeah I wouldn't worry about it too much, you don't have to use the awning on the tent. Plus, option for extra shade if you have the room never hurts!
