Did some more work on the Jeep.
One of the problems I ran into when the Jeep flopped onto its side was the motor shifted and the pulley rubbed the A/C line. Luckily, it didn't cut through the first layer. Funny thing is, I took the first pic before the trip notting how close it was...
Yeah, you definitely can do it in a small Jeep. The biggest advantage I had was that I was able to drive between larger obstacles that my friend with 37's had. Making them a non-issue.
Since then I've done a few changes. Most notable, I put the 1.25" body lift back in. This helps solve a...
Most of the people I've talked to recommend PowerTank regulators. Smittybilt has one but I've heard of some failures with the regulators. https://powertank.com/collections/regulators
Since you have an XJ, have you thought about locating a '87-89 Dana 44 from an XJ/MJ? They are a true Dana 44 with the thicker axle tubes BUT use the same axle shafts that the Rubicon's used later on. It would be bolt-in for you. Stock gears are 3.54's or 3.07's. Brakes are 10"x2.5" drums...
I carry two 20L (5.28Gallons) NATO Jerry cans. They are lined (this is important so they don't rust internally) and made by ValPro in Latvia. When I bought them, they were $40 each. Cost and size was a big contributing factor.
I carry the stock jack, a hi-lift and on occasion a bottle jack as well. If I'm on level ground I'll use the stock jack or bottle jack. On the trail, the Hi-lift.
Old post, but I'd hope you figured out by now that a York has its own oil sump. The oil will get sucked into the "air" passages which requires you to either modify the compressor so it no longer vents or add an oil/air separator. Sanden's and other rotary compressors use generally use PAG oil...
I run a TrueTrac up front and a Detroit Soft-Locker in the rear. It was the go-to setup back in the 80's and early 90's. Did the Rubicon Trail this summer and have no complaints offroad. The problem I've had with it is on road, the TT will continue to bias while in 2WD. This causes the front...
You might look up, Cherokee Chief. Though I think Jeep confuses the Chief with the Wrangler Islander. https://www.jeep.com/limited-editions/2017/wrangler/chief/index.html The Cherokee Chief was a Full-Size Cherokee back in the day. Though if you stick with that theme, Chief's came with...
The bumper is a stock CJ bumper with what's probably a Smittybilt push bar bolted on. Those push bars fell out popularity back in the 90's. I don't think there's a front bumper that's like the old stock ones for JK's. YJ's and TJ's have similar bumpers but neither will fit on a JK. Maybe...
Subscribed to your YT channel earlier this year. Great video work. I can only imagine how much time it takes to make them so nice. You sure are optimizing space. Love that it's YJ based. Not too many YJ's on the roads anymore. Looks great. What wheels are you running? I want to...
Hey, sorry if it sounded like I was singling you out. It wasn’t my intention at all. I was making a more general statement while not quoting anyone. The OP did say,
Hopefully, the OP will be able to get his Jeep back on the road though.
Rustolium Rust-Stop Hammered and Hammerite, which originally came from the UK are two different products. The biggest difference is that Hammerite doesn't require a primer. IIRC, Hammerite uses crushed glass to add strength to the finish. I painted my rear axle with Hammerite and it's held up...
+1. I'd recommend something inexpensive and easy to retouch.
Rattle cans can look nice if you do the prep work. Epoxy paint holds up pretty well. Hammerite is really good, too, though can be hard to find sometimes.
If you're looking for grip, you'd probably be better off keeping the finish...
Maybe people aren't seeing the specs in the signature. The 8.8 discussion should have happened before investing in the D35. He's got a lot in it already. Fixing it is going to be cheaper and allow him to sell it if that's what he want to do. Or sell just the axle once it's fixed.
To get a...
