40k buget looking to join the overland community

Don’t buy new, biggest waste of money. Get a good used rig and change things as needed. Go out and get experience, you will learn what you need the more you go out. If for some reason you don’t like the experience you would have wasted 40k.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Both front driver caliper bolts became loose, one fell out, the top one was almost all the way out by the time I got home.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Almost, enough for air to start leaking.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

When I was on the trail I could not figure out what it was, I did not want to crawl under the rig on 4 inches of mud. Everything was going well driving back with the e break. Limped home and took it all apart. The ridges break line broke in half between the caliper and the bracket.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

The caliper scratched the rim enough for air to start coming through, a bit longer it it could possibly cut the rim in half.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Had to fix the front caliper and break line after I lost a bolt and the caliper hit the rim and scraped hard enough to let air out. Driving home with just the emergency break was fun. The rim needs to be replaced.

    Popup Campers for overlanding

One trailer that caught my eye is the Rockwood 1640ESP, I think it’s the shortest one I found so far, still has two beds and a seating area. It seems they are quite new and now a lot of them for sale. I have not seen a used one for sale yet.

    Popup Campers for overlanding

I started looking at the Evolution, am leaning towards the E1, it’s shorter, I don’t need the storage in the front.

    Popup Campers for overlanding

Am looking to take everyone off the ground, I need two beds, one can be smaller for the kids, and some room for the dogs on the floor. Our FJ is limiting how much gear we can bring with us each time. A off road trailer with a roof top tent will not be big enough for all of us. Some of these pop...

    Popup Campers for overlanding

So far I found a pop up made by Forest River, Rockwood 1640ESP, a combination of pop up trailer and off-road capability. It’s quite compact, high of the ground and it will sleep 5or6 people no problem.

    Popup Campers for overlanding

It looks like two people can sleep in the roof top part and the rest in the tent like section, is that correct?

    Popup Campers for overlanding

There is almost no discussion on pop up trailers anywhere in the forums. I am looking for a trailer that 4 people and two dogs can sleep in. Roof top tents do not meet our criteria and am strongly leaning towards a pop up camper. Especially a compact one with bigger tires. There is very little...
