I've led some large groups on various trips... Last weekend was a small group on the Mojave Road. Some things come to mind: Camping - Getting more than 10 vehicles camped will be a challenge on the MR if you plan to be together. Comms - Relay comms are terrible. Pick a system and insist on it...

Nice gift. In California it would be illegal to wear the headset covering both ears on road - is that different in NV? How much do theses isolate you from surrounding noise?

98 Toyota Land Cruiser. Rear locker. V8 Torque. Great support. Its newer than you want but it will be safe and comfortable even on trails.

Honestly there only about 3 difficult areas in DV out of the dozens and dozens of routes. Roads are in good shape and a stock 4Runner can do them (reference). For a comfortable pace with time to sight see and setup camp before dark I'd target 40 miles a day max. I just lead a group last...
