    Faux overlander

If you enjoy his company take him out for real. If he stops to take pictures of his rig "flexing" on every other rock for the 'gram just give him that look that says "...don't do that." and maybe he'll get the idea. Maturity will snap him out of it one day, and improving one's self in the woods...

    Dangerous situations!

It was in '99... damn lol, 20 years ago. And I couldn't agree more about the beaches. There's some nice places here for sure, but I'm still biased from growing up in Pensacola.

    Dangerous situations!

Everything between two C-130 flights I'd guess would apply here for you.

    Dangerous situations!

I was working for US Fish & Wildlife one summer on an internship, driving up and down Onslow Beach in Jacksonville, NC (Camp Lejeune). We were installing the wooden dune retention fences along the beach. One morning we head out and are told we're in for a treat, proceed to the beach and keep our...

Tents and why you purchase them?

Your review is what finally sold me on it, with it's performance in the rain being my last question unanswered so thanks for that! Then by an awesome coincidence I met your mom at Kerr Lake as my wife and I were setting it up the first time. She was our neighbor all weekend and was very nice. I...

Tents and why you purchase them?

When we tent we use a Gazelle T4 Plus so far, haven't gotten more than a few uses of it and it's a very nice base camp set up. If it's just me, I'm totally going with my hammock.

Bow saw or other for small firewood chores?

I use a sven saw and an Ontario Rat 7 knife. for light firewood duty. Gotta go with something larger if you're going to deal with processing logs. I dislike the sven saw on larger pieces due to the geomemtry over the blade, but it does cut fast. A folding saw will be much more comfortable to use.

    Gazelle Tents

Had really nice weather, humidity wasn't quite as high and the rain held off until after we left. Don't have any more data on condensation in the cold as it only got down to the low-mid 50s.

Do I have the tow package?

I've never done it, but I think you can run a VIN decoder on the manufacturer's website for a list of options installed. *edit: I'm no help if that's where you got the list you posted.

    Gazelle Tents

That's encouraging, we'll be in 70% humidity but not quite as cold. If I remember to, I'll post an update.

    Gazelle Tents

We bought the T4 Plus recently and used it on a 3-day trip at Kerr Lake. Days were in the high 80's, but clear skies and a breeze now and then, beautiful weekend. We never put up the rain fly but even still this tent suffers from a lack of airflow, even with all the windows open the mesh is very...

    Photography trip to the VLA

What a beautiful trip! My inner geek is jealous. I might have to put this on the list.

Horror Stories and getting in over your head on the Trail.

After all the footage in the last few years of people escaping wildfires that has almost developed into a phobia of mine. I can't imagine much more terrifying than that. Especially if you aren't familiar with the area.

    Retired my jumper cables

I'd find it difficult to look at a simple reliable tool (jumper cables) and make the choice to not carry them, but they only do you any good if there's someone else out there to jump from. Only you can decide what level of redundancy you want to stuff in your tool box.

    Help with cold weather trip

You've covered the most important thing with the reflectix underneath by guarding against loosing heat through his compressed insulation. When I know it's going to be cold at night when I camp (hammock camping), I wear loose socks with hand-warmers tucked in under my toes, and warm sleeping...

What is your dream overland vehicle?

If money and practicality are no object... I'd have to say a Unimog with portal axles. Rear would be boxed in for storage of whatever the hell I want for the voyage, but I'd still probably want to sleep outside in a hammock or tent. I'd take that thing around the world.

    Ram charger

I'll chime in here as the Devil's Advocate. I've got a '95 Bronco, and have owned an '82 Bronco back in the day. You absolutely have to make sure this is the vehicle style you want. They are perfectly capable trucks and in my opinion have a great look, but they are not convenient by any means...
