You might consider swapping in a 3,500# axle to get larger wheel bearings. Larger bearings and non-trailer tires will let you travel a bit faster getting to the trails.

Pull tabs were always aluminum, so no real corrosion issues buried at a campsite. I find one every other year or so. One trip I found three.
