    Horse flies

I just want to pass on a tested way to rid one of horse flies. I learned this in the 70's and 80's when going camping in Northern Nevada's Black Rock Desert. There the horse flies would routinely stealth land and bite on exposed human flesh when camped at Fly Geyser or Soldier Meadows, well any...

    Cancelled Death Valley NP

Close to Ridgecrest. When I go to DV I drive the first day( 7 hrs-390 miles) from home and camp at Trona Pinnacles. Roughly 350 mi from Sonora. I fuel up and buy water in Ridgecrest, the Fastrip station used have the best fuel prices, corner of 395 and W Wilson. Then to Wally World on 395 for...

Just curious, is there a height restriction for the rear or side mounting, like is a mount 5' up legal?

Hex Keys, Ratches, Sockets, Spanners & Wrenches

Amanda, Been thinking of you and what kind of things you might have fail on the trail. These things are reported fairly often on videos and forums. Springs or shocks, U joints, fuel pumps/filter, wheel bearings, starter. Electrical gremlins as in loose or broken wires. Much bigger and...

Hex Keys, Ratches, Sockets, Spanners & Wrenches

Hi Amanda, Do you need 1" sockets? It's nice to have that stuff when you need them. I have my first 1/2" drive socket set, but I mostly use my 3/8" drive. For me so much is unknown about your desire to learn and take on what level of repairs and the tool needs of your truck. Yesterday I watched...

Hex Keys, Ratches, Sockets, Spanners & Wrenches

Amanda, So glad it started up with no issues! I don't think ethanol is bad per say, just that with some older rubber components it would eat them up. Your GMC is probably new enough not to worry especially after sitting for so long and then running. Good to go! :^)

Hopefully no mice and just needs a jump start and maybe fresh fuel. Does Canada use ethanol in the fuel? It can eat away at seals and such. Wishing for the best!

Hex Keys, Ratches, Sockets, Spanners & Wrenches

Amanda, Lots depends on how deep into repairs you want to go. Simple oil changes won't need much but a head gasket will. When I got into cars they didn't make the blow molded cases, hence the proliferation of tool rolls. I like the 159 piece set...

Craftsman tools, cordless drill, I like my Ryobi as it has a 1/2" bit capacity. Just a time saver with the right nut drivers or socket set.

My version of a water can electric pump......Now V2

I agree with John and Mandi, Giving options is a good thing. My MWC faucet is (IMHO) a cool DIY project. It may give a newbie an idea for their buildout that was hidden by all the electric buzz. Whether or not one goes with power if they do the project they will know how to fix it when it breaks...

My version of a water can electric pump......Now V2

Maybe I'm a Luddite or someday some one will explain the fascination with electric stuff when camping. I used a push-pull manual pump/faucet for my MWC can. In my blog; Military Water Carrier, MWC, faucet

Tools you love, cant live without!

I carried a Leatherman on the job for 20 years they are indeed painful to squeeze when using. I won't use one again if I have the right tool. My most used tool has been a flashlight. I have a mini-mag in a holder strapped to my parking brake lever. My current fav is a Fenix rechargable LED...

Hex Keys, Ratches, Sockets, Spanners & Wrenches

Hi Amanda, glad you made this a thread, So I admit right off that my viewpoint maybe different than others and it is; Don't take anything you don't know how to use or are not willing to fix on the trail. I say this because my situation is different, I don't drive a computer driven vehicle, I...

Hex Keys, Ratches, Sockets, Spanners & Wrenches

Amanda, I know nothing about this brand, I picked it for the image and fact it has a long lead and comes with a small roll of tape. It's a very simple tool not much to go wrong, I still use the one I bought 15 years ago. Not much in the way of electrical tools that you can't do with a pocket...
