  • Hi, i noticed your profile photo in another thread and was hoping I could ask you a bit about your vehicle? My wife has a Subaru forester and she would like to do some overlanding in it. Do you have a thread where you've posted everything that you have done to your vehicle? I would love to be able to reference it!
Hi Liana, saw your posts in Wawa's thread and wanted to follow up with a question - did you end up going with the MR502s? What tires did you get? And, most importantly - what did it do to your fuel economy? I got a 2018 2.5 a few days ago, also in SoCal, and new wheels & tires is my first step, but I don't want to make a strategic error.

    Hi Nathan,

I’m sorry I’m just replying. I haven’t been good at participating in the forums but am back on it.

Did you get your questions answered or make a decision?

I ended up with Black Rhino Boxers wrapped in BF Goodrich KO2’s. I went from stock 18” to 17” wheels so I could run a tire with more sidewall. (Cont’d 1/3)

My mpg’s went from 25/33 to 18/25 after adding the new wheels, a custom front bumper, a roof rack and a fill size spare on the outside of the vehicle. Not bad based on the mods and upgrades. The KO2’s are noisier than OEM but have amazing off-road manners. In my profile, you can see a link to my IG if you want a better look at my build. (Cont’d 2/3)

Friends run the following tires, and riding in their vehicles on- and off-road can say there are better options for smooth on-road manners and off-road utility in:

    - Falken Rubitrek
    - Falken Wildpeak AT3/W
    - Geolander a/t g015 (End 3/3)
FYI - I just bought 2 FuelPax and received 2 free mounts. Looked like a good deal. I purchased the FuelPax from the RotoPax website. Looks like they are producing a more affordable fuel carrier. Sidewall is thinner but they got me on the free mounts.

Welcome fellow Outback owner, there are a lot of people here on the forum that can give you information about building your Outback. I look forward to seeing how you decide to build yours.

Thank you, Terry. I LOVE your rig. There is so much information here. I'm working with what I have and am exploring Southern California a bit before deciding on my build.

Yes a slow methodical build is the best way to go. I am doing the same, as I notice an issue I try and find a solution. Hope to see you out at a meet-up or trail run sometime.

It's so exciting. The slow part is comically agonizing. I just want to go! :D I hope to meetup with you at some point as well.
