Thanks for all the helpful responses so far. I should have made my question clearer. I'm less interested in how and what products are used at home. It's more about if you're out boondocking with a heavy coat of dust, mud, bugs, whatever. I carry a 3M pad and use it with lots of water but wondered if anyone had come up with a more efficient method.

best answer yetMy method to clean the front windshield when off road is different. I don't carry anything extra with me because I am force to. I have a very limited amount of space since I use a Jeep TJ to explore in. With that said, here is what I do.
First I flip my windshield wipers forward, I then hit my swiper switch and let some of the washer fluid spray on the window. I hold this switch long enough just to put a light mist on the window. Than I grab a rag out of my door pocket and wipe the window down.
This works great for me because I do not need to carry anything extra, it takes very little fluid, and the whole window gets wet enough to get nice and clean. Plus washer fluid is cheap and the reservoir carries a lot of it.
I hope this helps!
