Prevention: One thing that some forget about is how hot our catalytic converters and exhaust can be. Many grass fires start by parking or even driving through tall, dry grass and shrubs.

Yes we recently had a fire in my area that started just from that. Last week I drove to a fire look out and spoke to the gentlemen regarding cause of forest fires in Northern California. He estimated that about 80 percent we're of human origin.

What about being aware while you are deep into remote areas, maybe limited visibility, how can you stay aware and have advanced notice in case something starts up near you? Does short wave radios monitor fire services in your area etc etc.

Garmin Inreach might be useful in communicating with the outside world. It does have an SOS feature with position etc.
