Off-Road Ranger I
I took my wife and daughter for a quick getaway up to Lone Pine last weekend. I didn't realize it, but the local, quite big, Film Festival was happening at the same time.
I was pretty lucky to get a motel room. Yeah, I know, I couldn't talk the wife into camping, even with the nice weather we had.
A few of you (@Narbob @Michael @stoney126 @maktruk @BazzaJ @Northern_XS ... crap, who am I missing?) might recognize our camp spot in this photo (?).
I cruised by and they had a bunch of information markers in several places. Well, our little camp spot was home to a famous (or just old) movie with Harry Morgan in it.
This was the rock just to the east of our campfire, right about where @BazzaJ was parked. It was the site of a mine in the movie.
It was pretty fun to drive all around that area and see these signs where (really) old movies had been made.
We stopped by the Film Museum and found out that parts of "Tremors" and "Iron Man" were filmed in different places around there too. The cave scene in the first Iron Man movie was created on the road up to Cerro Gordo!
We also went up to Cerro Gordo, met an OB member up there, Jeff #OB949.
Went to the Manzanar 'Camp', what an eye-opening piece of history that is.
And of course a quick trip up to the Manzanar Reward Mine for a gratuitous poser shot.
A good, quick trip, always good therapy.
Cheers, Dan.
