US Army Aviation. Started as a UH-60A mechanic and then crewchief, but I wanted to be in the front seat of a helicopter. After four years with Black Hawks, I went to Fort Rucker, AL to learn to fly Army helicopters. Transitioned to the CH-47D after flight school and the last 14 years in the Army before getting out in early '05--leaving the CW4 promotion on the table. Spent time in Germany, Persian Gulf (on a barge with gray UH-60A's during Operation Earnest Will) Panama, and Korea (twice at the Hump). Stateside assignments were at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Fort Rucker, Alabama, and Fort Hood, Texas. Five months after returning from the second 1-year tour in Korea, I deployed to the sandbox for OEF2 and OIF1 with the 7th Bn, 101st Avn Regt base on Fort Campbell, Kentucky--about an hour west of my location now. January of 2001 thorugh January of 2004 I was home for a total of five and a half months. My two boys were about 11-13 during those years and are doing well for themselves these days.

Dad, just turned 19 when he delpoyed to Korea in late June of 1950 from Japan. Spent nearly a year in that war earning the Bronze Star for some crazy stuff he did. Remember, the USG reduced funding the military after WWII and so these initial troops that went to Korea were under trained and under equipped. Stories my dad told me confirms this. He later would be deployed to Vietnam for a year in '67 where he earned his second Bronze Star. He's 93 now and living in Colorado with mom.

Doing an initial ground run after heavy maintenance in Mosul '03.

Was 12th CAG barracked at Weisbaden Airbase by your time there? We were located mostly at Camp Lindsey Air Force Base except the Motorpool, I hear Camp Lindsey was returned to our host country at some point.
