We all have one. That one mod we wish we'd done a little more research or thinking about before we committed to... For me, it was my TeraFlex hinged tire carrier. GREAT PRODUCT, nothing against it or anyone that is running it currently, but it ultimately did not fit my needs. I had almost ordered the AEV tire carrier and then, for whatever reason, I ordered the TeraFlex... About a year and some change later, I found myself removing it and installing the AEV carrier. Second to that, I wish I had gone with 37" KO2 instead of 35" KO2...

What's your most regretted mod?

I'd have never in a million years bought and mounted my winch. I let myself get talked into one and so far it has just been a $450, 60lb brick I get to haul around.

Overall, though, I would not have lifted as high (Id have used springs meant for 2.5-3" of lift with no weight, and been happy with 1.5-2" and a softer ride after my mods).

The 2" body lift on my previous vehicle. There are so many consequences to this kind of lift. In my case, brake line length, fuel tank filler hose length, air filter housing to throttle body intake hose and just a general feeling of uneasy that I had taken an extremely reliable off road vehicle and made it prone to failure. I'll never do that again.

Yeah, winches are definitely one of those things you kind of wonder why you spent money on, until you need it. Mine paid for itself already because it saved me from at least a $1500 tow / recovery fee in an OHV Park the first time I went wheeling.

Oh this is a good one for most regrettable! Sorry you had to go through that, but maybe your experience will help someone avoid this mod on their build

Heh, I still have plenty of other recovery options for those once-a-year scenarios (for example, plenty of lifting and winching options with my hi-lift), and I usually don't go looking for trouble alone. So yeah, I still 100% regret it :P .

I am embarrassed to admit that I installed "rock lights" on my truck and went about it the complete wrong way...

I bought a $50 RGB underglow kit that was essentially 4 plastic tubes with RGB LED's in them and a controller. There wasnt a good place to mount them on the pinch weld like was recommended so I ended up zip tieing them to the frame on each side, under the front bumper valence and on the bottom of the receiver hitch. Since my Tacoma is lifted 3" and on 33" tires you could clearly see the shitty looking tubes and as much as I was made fun of for looking silly I wouldn't take them off. They finally broke and I took them off years ago but my buddies still make fun of me for it.

For me it was one more lesson that I learned that reinforced, "buy it right, install it right, treat it right the first time."

Thank God it was only $50!

Well, for all the bitching I do about winches, it sure was handy today to drag myself out of a big ol bowl of "suck your shoes right off your feet" mud! Admittedly, I was absolutely asking for it; I had gone around it earlier, and on my way back I had one of those "hey skeeter, watch this!" moments. But, maybe 10 or 12 minutes later and I was out, with no shoveling, jacking, cranking, or messing with traction mats. So, while I could have gotten out with other methods, this certainly was convenient!20180923_085135-800x600.jpg

That’s awesome. And it’s one of those things you do because you have a winch.

That is absolutely true. I definitely wouldnt have even considered it otherwise heh. You can actually see my parallel tracks on the passenger side of my vehicle where I originally drive through. But, coming back, I saw what was clearly the deepest part of the pit that also had a steep exit and, again, looked at myself in the mirror and say "Hey Skeeter, watch this!"
