A little new to posting in forums so hopefully this is the right spot :) We drove the Utah BDR last year and it was simply amazing! We are driving another this year but haven't picked one yet and are interested in who has driven other state's routes and which was your favorite and why? Thank you for any input in advance :)

So far I've done New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. I love New Mexico and travel there often (I live in Oklahoma) so while I enjoyed that BDR, it didn't cover much new territory for me. Wyoming was pretty good but had long sections not as interesting. Which leads me to Colorado. Again, I have traveled to Colorado often living so close to it but haven't made the passes a priority, and the BDR does just that. Of the three I've done, I would say Colorado is my favorite.

Thank you so much for your reply! We go to Colorado fairly often and realized after looking at the colorado route we have actually been on pieces of it already. I dont think one can go wrong with choosing Colorado and just may have to do the whole route this year :) Did you do the whole route? How many days did it take you? The Utah one took us about 8-10 days but we got stuck on top of a mountain for a night due to snow lol

About five and a half days. Our group did the whole route, I personally didn't do Ophir Pass (long story). We were doing north to south so that was at the end of the trip. How much time have you spent in New Mexico? If you haven't spent much then do that instead!

None in New Mexico and we actually talked about doing it this year so I think you may have decided for us! We really appreciate your feedback, thank you!

We really liked Oregon, but you really have to be aware of fires as you go. Also historic fires in the area can close part of the route for a few years. We were doing the coast range north to south and had a land slide take out part of the route and private timber companies (Weyerhaeuser) closing their gates! Always detours, but that’s ok, we still had fun.

This is really good info thank you! We started the Utah BDR a titch too early and learned our lesson on checking road opening dates better after driving a good while only to come to a closed gate ‍♀ and needing to make a detour. May I ask, about how long did the Oregon route take you with your detours? Do you have a specific resource that you reference for road closures in specific areas that is up to date besides the forest service website? We don't always have cell service to check websites and just refer to what Gaia maps may have at that time. Thank you again!
