Hey y’all looking to pick someones brain! We are looking to either god to Alabama Hills in Lone Pine,CA or Trona Pinnacles. Both are within the same driving distance for us and we are looking to do it in a weekend. Of course I will send pictures where ever we end up but we need a little help deciding!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Lone pine / Alabama Hills area gets my vote. Trona is cool however it's really a place where you can spend a few hours and that's good enough for most ppl. There are things nearby Trona that you can do it you are dedicating a weekend to that area.

SOO HERE IS WHAT WE DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-We went up to Alabama Hills on the Friday and woke up to the realization that well it was very crowded. We then drove up to Kennedy Meadows from the 395 (gorgeous drive). Decided it was not what we were looking for and then went over to cutteback rd. near Red mountain and camped. We went in with absolutely no plans but drove quite a bit! But thanks you guys for your help!IMG_0185.JPG IMG_0141.JPGIMG_0108.JPG

Well we noticed that the pit toilet were locked and the one that we did find unlocked was kinda dirty. We were in 2 jeeps and the paved area that the vehicles were allowed on were not long enough. I dunno it just wasn’t our rodeo but that drive was amazingly beautiful!

Thanks for posting. Question, did you stay at the Meatloaf campground in Alabama Hills? (Think meatloafs the name) Also, what do you mean when you say crowded? Just asking because planning trip in next few months.

So all of the sites that I had mapped out were taken and there was just a lot of families out there and people were everywhere, not really what we were looking for so I do not know about a meatloaf camp ground but there is a lone pine campground? And some other group campground. I highly recommend staying in the alabama hills area! Its absolutely gorgeous! Most of that area can facilitate large campers, but there are a couple harder to reach areas I posted my maps I used gaia where I wanted to camp and where I ultimately found camp. I like this area been there a few times. This time it was just a little crowded. Hope this helps!
