Installed a Leitner rack on my Rebel

Those rack are really nice. So many possibilities!

I ordered and installed a second FuelPax Universal Mount for my second gas container. Now I just need to fill both gas tanks, mount the propane tank and go off-road somewhere to really test the stability and weight of everything on the hitch carrier. Feels solid, but need a true field test.

Packing for my trip tomorrow morning. My favorite part of any trip is the plan. GAIA, Bins, reservations, and then the part of having no clue where on the trail I am camping or what I am going to find. Countdown is T -23H.

Mounted 2 Pelican Vault 700 cases to the Yakima rack. Make carrying/securing items easier. Used vacuum line slid onto the u-bolts.

A 23 zero tent will hopefully be sitting on top of it in the next 3 weeks. Was supposed to get here the same time as the rack but got pushed back to mid October for delivery.

For sure! Even though I knew they where high quality I was surprised just how nice it was when I unpacked it. Not sure who/what they got doing their welds but they are probably some of the best I've ever seen.

@Spud.Built, I am looking for that same Dometic drawer fridge to put in a similar setup as yours. Good job on yours. One comment, though: the refrigerator needs to have space around it for ventilation, and you have it fairly tight in an enclosed area. It will possibly overheat (especially in the back where the compressor is) and it will likely reduce the lifespan of the fridge... Since it's probably too late to make the enclosure bigger, I suggest you drill lots of holes on the side walls to make them look like a colander :). This will provide some airflow capability, but will also make your wood frame lighter which has many other benefits.

There's actually a fair bit of space behind it, I also attacked the side board with a hole saw near the fan, definitely had no plans about sealing it in there!

Local Ace Hardware: U-Bolt 1/4“ x 3/4“ x 1 1/2”. After bolting the cases to the rack, I flap wheeled excess protruding bolt length. 7/32 vacuum hose slipped over the u-bolt using WD-40.

The V700‘s will fit items such as a Cleanwaste toilet and 2gal Rotopax.

Finally finished my trailer build, and tried it out at the beach today. Started as a flat bed trailer 48”x66”. Slide outs on both sides. Kitchen slide out on the back. 2-82ah batteries for power. Took about 2 months to build. Also have to ability to lift the tent an extra 12” with gas struts

Had to put the stock 15" wheels back on as all 4 17" wheels kept leaking air and found a plug that had been disconnected from somewhere.

Tried working on the Bronco today... stupid bolt that ruined my good looks is still giving me problems... I can’t keep a pair of vice grips on the bolt head, and I found out that I missed the flange head of the bolt as well... so even if I could get the head to break I’m still SOL... I’m about to find my good hacksaw and see about hacking the bolt off... I was trying to leave enough bolt to grab with a pair of vice grips or something after the transmission came out... but now looks like I’m going to have to tap and drill the hole.

Its the unfortunate curse of the domestic full size trucks... almost no one makes 4x4 or off-road type stuff for them, so a lot of custom work tends to be the norm. Plus its a good chance to get some welding practice in.

Agreed, I have a nice older 4x4 Dodge Ram 250 pick up I was going to use for my off roading and found the same conclusions and heavy hitting cost to make it into the rig I wanted for ALL my excursions, not just some of them.

I'm too old to do a lot of custom fab work even though I have most all the equipment needed to do most of it. And so I bought the stock Land Rover Discovery 2 thinking I could buy what I needed in the after market and simply install it myself. Unfortunately I became ill and cant do the installs myself. Getting someone to do work for you is like pulling teeth but after 18 months of trying, I am almost there.

I feel I've missed half the fun of the off road scene because of my not doing a lot off road DIY stuff myself and I've missed doing it. Some people look at it as work but to me, when I was younger, it was the fun part and where you gained the most from the game both in skills, learning and enjoyment.

Always some surprises all along the way. Remember when the solutions were the best part of valor ? Now they are APITA. If anything you learn patience when you work on a vehicle. More so when you attempt modifications. I think your handling it pretty well myself considering all the unexpected issues you've had on this trip.
