What changes to your rig were fast removed, or regretted? Why did your opinion on it change?

Wow, I would have thought this thread would be hoppin'!

In our previous set-up (F250) we bought a camper shell without a roof rack. Instantly regretted that decision, and wound up sending it back to Snugtop to get the rack rails installed (local dealer wouldn't touch the job).

Why would they not touch it? Liability reasons?

For me it is the platform in my Suburban. I don't regret the platform, but I am still making adjustments to get it right. It was too long and I cut it down to fit a cooler in the back. I then had to make it wider to fit a larger mattress.

I did have solar on my Suburban and used it one trip and took it back off. That was a mistake for me. The reason is, I drive around a lot on FS roads and they all have trees. So, while driving the Solar did not charge the battery and the second night the battery (2nd Battery) was dead by 5am. I run 2 CPAP machines from it.
For us, I like to keep moving so I removed the Solar and installed a large relay for the second battery and now it charges while I drive. This is way better for us as it recharges completely every day before we stop for the night. If I ever plan to do any travel that requires multi day stays, I will put it back, but still keep the current set-up.

Other than that I just regret not having more time to get out there and use it.

My roof rack. While it serves/ed its functions well, and it was the only one of its type 3 years ago, it sucks balls from a sound standpoint. There are now 9 different "half racks" available and each seems to ahve addressed the shortcomings of this one. In short, wanted a rack that I could easily slide the freedom panels off of and still hold shovel, ax, chainsaw, two bins, 5g jerry can, easy up, back up lights, ditch lights and 4 6" forward facing lights. It does it, but man, when empty, its noisey. Tried modifying it over and over. Going to start over with a new unit from another manufacturer.

What brand is it and what are you looking at now? I have Silverado with a cap on it and am looking for a platform to put things on.

Least favorite mod... none... I spent way too much time thinking everything through to have a least favorite... my favorite mod... it’s going to be either my overhead console or my 5 speed swap... that is until I get my twin stick 203/205 doubles transfer case.

Is that a Warrior rack? I had one a half lifetime ago. It was noisy but livable. Have you considered cutting the rails off? Flat racks are a lot less noisy.

I’m with M Rose, I’m wracking my brain trying to think of my least favorite mod on our current vehicle/trailer. ( very long brain fart as I’m still wracking ) does older stuff, from way back when count? If so, my vehicle choice itself ended up being a mistake. It/they were a lot of fun, but we spent a lot of time and money attempting to build them out into overlanding vehicles. 800 lbs of payload and 2,000 lbs of towing capacity are quite restraining.

Lifts and big tires were my most hated and wasted mods. I never knew how much better my Jeep would be until I went back to stock suspension and bought much lighter pizza cutters. Besides a much smoother ride I gained 5mpg adding 95 miles to my range.

Here is my best mod...

Couldn't agree more. Didn't take my TJ completely back to stock, but wasted a lot of $$ on crap I didn't need for the trails I run.

My KMS Congo pro roof rack: It attach to my bumper and I am always nervous that some one will rear end me and mess up my entire setup. It also lacks of mounting options for accessories compared to other brands. Unfortunately The alternative was to wait like 7 months for a gobi rack since I need 800lbs of static weight and 300lbs of dynamic. The idea is for 4 of us to sleep on the RTT. Some times I think I should have gone with a flip pack tent so that we have living quarters in cold weather also allowing us to install a diesel heater.

AEV fuel caddy: is a distant second but I would have rather go with an under car extended fuel tank mostly for weight distribution.

Trasharoo: That thing sags after a couple of hours on the trail.

I put a 3” lift with wide tires on my TJ and absolutely hated it. Killed my gas mileage , speed, and was pretty much useless for the typical trails in N Georgia. Looked great, but not practical. Went down to a 1” lift, beefed up suspension components, thinner tires, and it’s perfect for what I do. A few years ago I started paying attention to how the Aussies overland and have kinda adopted a lot of their philosophies.
