Not sure if this is the correct thread section but its the only one I see about vehicles. I am trying to figure out which front axle I have. I have posted pictures below. It is on a 1992 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Laredo. I know it is either a Dana 30 CAD (Center Axle Disconnect) or a Dana 30 High-Pinion. I am not sure what year they switched from the CAD to the High-Pinion and the internet has conflicting info. If it helps, the rear axle is a Chrysler 8.25. I can switch into 4WD just by shifting the transfer case into 4WD and I do not have to get out and activate hubs. I am curious because I have heard the CAD axle is weaker and has been known to break under moderate off-road use. I plan on putting a 3.5" lift and 31" tires onto this XJ. If I have a CAD and its that bad I will consider swapping axles.
Any info, advice, personal experiences, etc. would be much appreciated.
