I am planning a pretty big 3.5 week trip from Southern California to Canada and plan on sticking to the coast on my way up. I am not on a strict itinerary so I am going where the wind takes me. I have done this trip a few times before but have always been somewhat rushed and haven't gotten a chance to take my time. I am looking for any suggestions you guys have for anything really something I should check out or is off the beaten path.

So far I plan on meeting up with some OB members in the Big Sur area the first weekend that I am headed up.

other points of interest I plan on hitting:
Santa Cruz area
Bay area
Bodega Bay
Point Reyes
Mendo coast
Lost Coast (Usal Beach, Shelter Cove, Mattole Beach)
Ferndale
Arcata
gold Bluff Beach Campground
Crescent City

I plan on doing mostly remote camping but I also do plan on staying in some reasonable accomodations (hotel, motel, guest houses, and established popular campgrounds) Anyone that wants to meetup and its on my way I will consider it if its within my route or if the timing is right.

Thanks for any info you guys can provide on spots I should visit or check out. I know California Coast pretty well but I am always open to those secret spots. :)

Stop at The Sea Hag in Depoe Bay Oregon for the clam chowder. Hands down, best clam chowder I've ever had. I like the Pacific City area in Oregon as well, there are a few stretches of beach that you can drive on (which is just cool).
I remember randomly stopping in Depoe Bay once because I saw some whales offshore, that was a pretty cool place!

FozRoamer how far into Canada are you coming? I can give you a few suggestions on that one for sure :-)

I have done a number of trips down the Coast Highway to almost the Cali border. Definitely worth checking out Florence and the sand dunes, the Sea Lion caves, Tillamook's cheese factory, Newport and the salt water taffy, Haystack rock and kite flying on the beach in Seaside - just to name a few!

I would agree with @pjo Sea Lion caves, Tillamook Cheese Factory and Haystack Rock are all worth going to. I also would not drive past Humboldt Redwoods State Park without at Least driving the Avenue of the Giants.

Sounds like a fun trip! I also have an SoCal to Canada/Alaska trip planned for over the summer! If the timing works out I would be happy to meet up in Santa Barbara, and I can take you up to show you our tucked away hotsprings.

Thanks man. I am very familiar with the hot springs in that area, I get around. ;) Good luck with your trip I am currently in Vancouver now.

If you find yourself travelling through Hope, make sure to stop at the Home Restaurant and have the Mountain Mushroom Burger. (it doesn't, however, come with fries..... Not to worry as you wouldnt be able to eat them anyways) Safe travels.
