Not quite the same thing, but I went to replace the forks on my Kawasaki a little over a year ago. And when I went to pull the front caliper (Brakes also needed to be replaced up front.) I found the previous owner had installed a super fancy set of high Security Round Head Bolts.....
I eventually secured a replacement set of class 10 bolts to replace them, but getting these off required some effort.... Specifically fusing welding a 12 point 11mm socket onto the the 12mm bolt head.
My wife said something on facebook at the time about not knowing if she should be terrified, or excited to hear me cackling with glee while the sounds of a 5lb hand sledge and a socket are banging away in the garage. :)
Glad you got home safe and the brakes didn't cause something more serious in the form of an accident.
