I used to live on a 200 acre lake. I could just pull up at home after work and blast across the lake paddling hard, then take it easy on the way back.

I've been kayaking for almost 15 years. I have an old Wilderness Systems Pamlico 100 and an old Islander Swifty 9.5 (now done by Perception, I think).

My old 1994 K1500 Blazer Silverado could take them flat, topside down, side by side on the roof rack. For my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I had two sets of J hooks to lay them in. Those J hooks were a buddies, so I gave them back and used the Thule Stacker, which is STILL mounted on my old Jeep GC. For all intents and purposes, they lived on the roof of my SUV's until the first snow or low enough temperature I couldn't kayak anymore for the year.

On the big Blazer, I just used ratchet straps. The Jeep uses the Thule Stackers. I ratchet them around each other and through the roof rack, and then use the Thule straps and pawl setup for stern and bow.

Sorry I dont have any pictures handy, but the ones with a dusting of snow on the yaks, on the Jeep are priceless.

The great thing about them is, after all these years, they've taken some punishment but all that is required to repair them is an old frisbee and a heat gun

I live on the gulf coast and even in winter you can paddle if you gear up. I love that.

I am a sucker for the fullsize wagon trucks. Ramcharger, Bronco, Blazer.... etc.

The 1986 rusted out but this 1991 is 30 this year and runs good. It is a clean slate.... currently building it up.

Added a little temporary shelf and I liked it so much I am leaving it. Installed 2003 Chevy Tahoe rear seats for the 50/50 fold and tumble.

One of these days I will work up the nerve to go paddle the Guadalupe trails at Nichols landing. (Texas). Other than pics of alligators, birds, and my shoes this is what I have for the kayak, that old aluminum canoe wasn't working out for me.

F^ck-all if I could even find one in that shape around here. And if I could, the price -? Forget it. I used to find these and two door Blazers a-plenty on Craigslist. 2 grand could have gotten a decent "user." Even a few RamChargers. Now? Nothing.

Gotta find them on AutoTrader where they are asking 5 grand for a rusted hunk of beater.

Dont get me wrong, the new Bronco looks kickass! But if they were gonna go the "family of Broncos" route and add the Sport, I wish they added an XLT version or something and based it off the full size truck. Dont even get me started on the new Blazer. Abomination to occur on the 50th anniversary of such an awesome truck launch.

The techniques are not difficult. Main thing is take your time and check everything numerous times. I built the kayak from plans and a super detailed manual. I cut the parts myself thinking I’d save money. Not really, because the kit contains exactly the amounts of everything you need, even the epoxy. The advantage was being able to buy supplies as I needed them. the boat is a Mill Creek 16.5 from Chesapeake Light Craft.
