Camping is half of this "Overlanding" fun! The other half is finding the right vehicle to take you where you want to go. Sometimes the 2nd half involves modifying said vehicle.

This is a great place to learn and get inspiration from rigs and gear , to places to see! 
I am in the same boat, where I started was taking all the car camping gear out of the acura tl, bought a 4runner loaded it in that and went camping. The spirt of overlanding is to get out see the world and meet people. I have been spending the last few months micro managing my mod list that I haven't really did anything. My next weekend off we are gona spend the 20 mins, load up and drive. I suggest you do the same and you will find you're answers soon enough.

Honestly I don't think k you need a 4wd to overland. Most of the trails I go on very rarely have required 4wd.
I see too many people worry about what they are driving and forget to just get out there and experience. Take notes and upgrade as needed.
