New to overlanding. Going to try our first big trip this fall... cross country from PA to California and back, so I have been trying to learn how to make better video. Venture4WD youtube vids are my main inspiration, they are so cinematic. But when looking at vids i find a lot of wheeling, or a lot of technical stuff, but not the history which is what i really enjoy. Learning what's around.. how things used to be / look, that type of thing. So that is what i am shooting for. Trying to do more research on the areas where we travel and bringing that out in a video of our trip. What i am working on as practice for the big trip are some little scouting trips in the area, specifically the pine barrens of new jersey. I have been researching the early stage routes from philadelphia to egg harbor along original native american migratory routes and the later route of quakers to their yearly meeting at the shore. i have found loads of interesting info and now am starting to scout parts of the road. I've also found some other interesting things along the way. And with that... the latest video. Hoping for any comments or feedback to see what you think and maybe give me some direction on what i can do better or different. Thanks everyone!

This is awesome. Exactly the kinda stuff I hope to do.

Thanks for sharing. Will be watching this adventure.

There is lots of Native American history in my area, and one of the reasons I am excited to start exploring again.

The history and trying to put yourself there is a very good way to understand what overlanding is all about.

I’m in and look forward to more of your work. I’ve a YouTube channel as well, but I gave up on dedicating all the time and energy in an attempt to put out a good product. Editing alone can take hours for a 5 min vid. Hmmm, local history and wheelin. Nice

Thanks again for this take on overlanding.

We are currently involved in exploring Rothrock State Forest which has a pretty extensive Native American History.

We had just did a weekend trip to see some children's museums and at the one in Bloomsburg they had some interesting information about early settlers, immigrants and Native tribes.

If your ever in the area...check it out. Pretty neat.

Thanks again

That sounds great! Are the trails open year round up there? Ive been looking for more places to explore here in PA but found a lot are closed off except during hunting season. Thats why i spend most of my timein the pine barrens with so many trails and open year round. I think purple lizard does a map for that park as well... ill check it out. thanks!

My threads for the area.

The state Forests are open all year. There are some gated trails...but 90ish% of the whole area is open.

The gamelands in the area do open up like stated.

They are getting ready to close, with some already gated.

Yes, Purple Lizard does do a map for Rothrock. I have been using the Forest service day use map and it has been very accurate.

I plan to get the Purple Lizard maps shortly...

Good videos. Thanks for sharing. When I lived in south Jersey I spent quite a bit of time exploring the pine barrens. Your videos brought back some memories. Did you ever run in to any of the pineys?

Any updates to your plan?
yes. I did a ride out of the basic stage route from Coopers ferry to little egg harbor. It was loads of fun and very interesting. I am still piecing together a small section or two. I found even more info after riding the route and researching what was around and some of the things we saw. I was going to do a quick video on that rideout just as a little preview for the real thing. I am hoping to be able to film the real thing by end of summer. Time is flying!

I have met a couple of people who live deep in the woods on occasion. they are always very friendly and have been quick to pass along their knowledge of the area and its history when we talk about exploring. I have heard of some negative encounters with territorial types, but i have not experienced that at all to this point.
