Hi everyone , I'm as green as it gets to this life style. Bought my very first Tacoma Dec. 5th 2018. Its a 2019 Off Road Tacoma with a Boss Toytec add a leaf with 285/75/16 Toyo Open Cou b try tires and spacers. I'm not sure I went with the right set up , so I plan to consult Mainline Overland Shop near me and possibly make some upgrades.
I have been telling myself I'm too old and injured to live this life style because of my injuries and age of 59. But I have always loved the outdoors. I also kept think this off road camping is for those out west where the parks and off road travel is more accessible than here in Pennsylvania. That may be true but this is one of the reasons I joined here , to find dispersed camping in PA. Anyway , that's a little about me. I'm permanently out of work because of injuries , so I have tons of time. Thanks Bryan R.

Keep it stock, you bought a great overlander.

All you need for camping is a dry place to sleep, a secure spot for food, maybe refrigeration, maybe a way to cook.

On the Tacoma, it'll go anywhere stock with more reliability than you will with a bunch of retail "mods".

The safest way to overland, especially with injuries, is to keep it in 2WD until you get stuck, then shift into 4WD and back up. There are many times 4WD and 4LO will help you tread lightly, but it can also get you in deep shit. Do the mods as you discover which mods you need. Don't listen to the guys selling the parts.

And welcome to overlanding, the east coast is amazing.

Thanks for the reply , much appreciated. Trust me when I say I'm just going with mild upgrade , like sliders (just in case) and maybe a Snugtop rebel cap and maybe a few lights. I'm not sinking a ton of gadgets. I'm looking to just off road camp in places a car can't go. Thanks again , I appreciate all suggestions.

Welcome @Bryan R.! There’s plenty to see and do in Pa. and you’re also not far away from the pine lands in NJ. Then you have Green Ridge SF in Maryland and the playgrounds known as Virginia/West Virginia. Basically anybody who says that there’s no place to go in the East is simply unwilling to drive a couple hours.

Here’s a link to a thread I started about my favorite place to get out in Pennsyltucky.

Welcome! Yeah, the cap is nice. I just put an ARE cap on my tundra a few months ago and it really helps with keeping things versatile. I'm also with ya on not getting a lot of gadgets...I travel and camp to get away from all that mess, I just want things simple! Glad to have you onboard!
