I plan to start back up the Ventura meetups. The next one is going to be 03/10 starting @ 8am. We will be meeting at a newer coffee bar and eatery called Five07 at 2036 E Avenida De Los Arboles Suite C, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362. They have good coffee and some interesting menu items.

Look forward to seeing everyone there even if it is just for a quick stop in to get your rocket fuel.

Hi Ken,

I am from Moorpark and sounds like a good plan! The wife, kid, and I were planning on heading out to either Alabama Hills or Joshua's Tree this upcoming weekend for an overnighter, but we would like to meet and great early Saturday morning on the 10th. See you then.

Unfortunately, nothing recently. Most of the time I catch everyone locally at the Rigs & Coffee Meetup at FrontRunner in Agoura Hills, CA.

I'll call them and find out when they do those meetups. :) Thank you!

@sportsguy @Miller8152 If you are interested in starting a meetup, I can help you get it started. Unfortunately the OB meetup in your area went the wayside. I can provide information as well as a meetup packet (decals, flags)

I"m new to the area (I live in Newbury Park) and am hoping to find some local folks that would like to do some overlanding. I'm also an amateur astronomer and like to find dark skys to camp and setup telescopes if that's interesting to anyone. If a meet up starts again I'd certainly attend.

Hi Micheal,

I am local in Moorpark, so feel free to hit me up. There are a lot of us in the area, we just don't meet up often. :)

If you like Dark Sky Areas, try Massicare Rim in NV which is listed as an International Dark Sky Sanctuary. On March 18, 2019, Massacre Rim became just the 7th designated Dark Sky Sanctuary in the world.

Massacre Rim (U.S.)

"Nestled between the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (BRNCA) and the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge (SNWR), the Massacre Rim Wilderness Study Area (WSA) is not only one of the darkest places in Nevada but also the contiguous United States. Its sheer remoteness offers protection from human populations and the associated light pollution: the two largest urban areas to Masscare Rim are located 150 miles to the south (Reno, Nevada) and 163 miles to the west (Redding, California). The nearest communities to Massacre Rim include about two dozen ranches and homes in Long Valley, primarily centered around the ghost town of Vya, Nevada and four ranching communities in Surprise Valley, California, about 30 miles to the west. With a population of just over 800, this area provides little to no impact on the night sky and gives Massacre Rim visitors a chance to experience a truly dark sky."

I have been their with the wife and kid, and at 3AM on a moonless night, you can walk around by starlight.

Cool. Thanks for the Massacre Rim tip! That sounds like the exact type of place I'd love to visit.

Thanks for responding. For remote travel I would like to find other folks to travel with so I'm not in the middle of nowhere without back up, so to speak. I also travel with my kid/s and sometimes my wife. She's okay with a night or two in a tent then needs indoor plumbing. ; )

When it gets a bit warmer, maybe by March I hope to plan some weekend trips. I'll check back with you incase you're interested.

All the best,

Mike

What’s up everyone. I’m new to the forum. Just happened to find this post. I live in Ventura. We should try to get a meet up after all of the current restrictions get lifted. Hope everyone is staying healthy and sane.
