In my opinion, all those things you listed elevate it from just a trip to an adventure! Looks like you had a great time. Michelle & I still have it as a possibility for after Christmas this year

Is this area drivable in late winter (I.e.March)? I called the Manti La Sal NF office about roads in the Monticello district around that time and they said no way - snow too deep and melting/muddy. What about Canyonlands? Is it better at the lower elevations in March? I did Shafer trail this past summer, but would like to go back to that general area when it’s cooler (not necessarily that trail).

Hopefully it is not snowing or rain. Hardscrable and few others steep drop off won't be easy in mud or icy.

I guess it is depending on level of snow and trail maintaining. I think April/May would be perfect.. :) but I have to try..

I was there in Late March this year and you'd be fine at the lower elevations, including White Rim.

It would only be up around the La Sals where it would be crazy snow

It would only be up around the La Sals where it would be crazy snow

Being from out east, it’s weird hearing 5000’ referred to as “lower elevations.”

to do whiterim you have to reserved ahead.

yet I still encountered folks took over my reserved camp spot. It felt upsetting when you arriving at camp lat at 9pm and someone took your spot. Luckily there is another camp spot that we stay with water flow thru our tent in the rain.

I asked the ranger about this situation and unfortunately I did ot captured the license plate. that can be a hefty fine.

I hope our members will respect the reservation and stay in our own space ;)

It is just one incident that I won't let that destroyed my group sense of adventure. Still enjoy the trip and can't wait to do again

We did that trip a few years back. Totally EPIC!
Made a video of it got a lot good comments about it. Let me know what you guys think.
