I love my Suburban.

Lower your tire pressure. That is one of the cheapest mods you can make. It is not free however--you need to make sure you have a way to air back up. You will need to invest in a compressor or CO2 system.

Don't rule out the Tahoe platform. Unless you need all that length you may be better off with the Tahoe. The tail end of a Suburban kills your angle of departure. It takes a lot of lift to compensate for all that tail.

That's true. Just ask Sofia Vergara.

I do like the Tahoe platform, though. It's the closest thing we have to the old k5 and 90's k1500 big Blazers. Nice, big, 4 door with a lot of storage, but rather shorter wheelbase than the suburbans or even a lot of pickups these days

I previously owned an '08 Silverado 4x4 1500 LTZ Quad cab. I took that thing just about everywhere you are describing and a lot more. Unfortunately, mine came with stock 20" rims so it didn't have a ton of sidewall to airdown so dropping to about 25# is all I was willing to go. It was really smooth on road and decent off road. I really miss the utility of having a full-size. Anyway, I digress, if your family is 4ppl or less, my vote is for a Silvy. It was a great truck for over 200K miles. The door lock actuators and a front axle seal replaced are the only repairs that were made in the 10 years I owned it, besides standard maintenance.
