In my mind I am always at a remote high-elevation lake surrounded by snowcapped peaks.

Hello Friends,

I have posted the 2025 version of the gpx file for our trip to Usal. If you have a look you'll notice quite a few more waypoints to the north of Usal Beach. For those of you that can spare the time you are welcome to join us as we break camp at Usal on Sunday morning. We'll be out for another week or so, visiting some really cool spots that are out of reach for the typical weekend trip. We'll spend a night or two in each spot and spend the day exploring. Here's a pic

Anyone gone north from the beach (lately)? I went about 200y up and it got real thick real quick, but was supposedly open. I was solo so opted to go home the regular way, which was just as well as I had to go back to work. This was May of 2024. Only curious.

(and to be clear, I mean north on Usal Rd from Usal beach. :)

I just tried to call Mendocino County Roads, at 707-463-4363, but can't get through. You may have better luck from your phone, or we can wait and see - it's been a couple of years since I last went up that way. I was a good road then, but a bit "pinstripy" if you get my meaning.
