Hello, i am just starting to plan a trip later this year with the wife and kids to the UP. we went years ago when my daughter was just born and stayed at a cabin in L'anse. i would like to go back to the west side of the UP but this time i would like to take trails throughout the UP and stop and camp a few spots throughout. We love great waterfalls and the kids love to swim. I swim with them but do not like cold water (however i suck it up for them lol.). should be able to handle trails better in the suburban than the last time when i had my crew cab long bed dually cummins lol. Anyone have must travel trails or must see spots. GPS cordinates to waterfalls/ great camping places. I like to stay away from campgrounds when possible. Or should i replan and go forf a week on Drummond Island? Thank you in advance.

How many waterfalls do you wanna see? There's a bajillion of them near Munising/Marquette. Some you've gotta hike to, others a short walk from parking lot or the road even. When you traveled up to L'anse, did you make it up the Keweenaw to Copper Harbor? How many days do you want to spend up there?

Drummond is cool, but the rest of the U.P. is awesome, and what I would plan on hitting. What time of year are you going? There's a few of us Michiganiacs planning some U.P runs this year...myself and a friend will be going late September / early October time frame to hopefully catch the fall colors.

Lots of waterfalls all of them lol. We did go to copper harbor just pavement there though. The only exploring we did was right around L’anse as my truck was huge and not very capable. I’m looking at doing about a week up there. I was thinking Drummond is “cool” but the rest of up would be more “alone” and family oriented for my kids. 6 and 10 will be almost 7 and 11 depending on when we go. Looking at end of summer early fall

We've got a work in progress map that has some places tagged. You can always hit up the Facebook group or even the Midwest Overlanders FB group and ask. You'll probably get the same people answering in both places.

Love the UP. Friends of mine grew up in Gladstone and we took a trip with them a few years back over the 4th of July weekend. I wish I could remember more specifics but we hit a few waterfalls, Lake Superior and quite a few awesome little towns. But I can remind you of one thing...bring a good supply of insect repellent.
