Looking for any advice and/or recommendations for good trails off the 395 in-between Bishop and June Lake-ish that would be suitable for a full size rig (Ford Raptor). First time heading up that way overlanding and seems like there is an endless network of trails to explore, but trail width may be a concern on some of the more popular and well-documented routes. Will be exploring the area regardless to see what we can find, but wanted to check if anyone had any great recommendations to share. Thank you in advance!
When are you going, I camp up that way with my friend from OC. He has taken me to several places in the area that you are speaking of. I personally travel the area due to my parents Dad health issues. Baja to Carson City, on the 395. Oh I think tha much of the 395 can be overted by an actual off-trail route that pre existed the highway. Just saw it on YouTube, from a dude I follow, got to look into that one more. It would be awesome just to avoid the 395 as much as possible and still get where im going.
A little further up the road is BRIDGEPORT it has GREAT camping and a awesome river, (quick moving) hot springs, you will need to take a path or be adventurous and cross the river. We did with my Mali beside me. I fell recrossing, it was hard just to get on my feet again...it was clasic, that is looking back. Reality it kicked my butt just trying to get on my feet again, but im here lol so i survived, and that is always the key to a great experence. They have a range to shoot long range, again great camping spots. This place is further up the road from where you asked, but worth it. Oh as you will read, my Mali caught hell crossing but she did it beside me. a tru champ as you willl read further in this response, a true adventurer Bella is..
I on the other hand want to try out the same area your refering to as well as for the river right there. My friend Mark I have known sense the mid 80s, we were both in the Army stationed in Panama. I retired at 20 years, he left after ghis tour, and started civilian life. Now he does off book construction, and a math teacher mainly in OC. As you must imaging, for me to reconnect after 20 years, he must be a great humanbeing. Anyway I can ask Mark about the Bishop area, he has told me of trails in that area that he has camped on many times...also, I have with another friend from Oceanside/Baja, another great guy. We with several others went to a place called "Randburg." yuo its up there, a "Ghost town," a cabil up in there owned by this old shool XGames motorcycle chanpion. The cabin was cheap PLUS mile and miles of color marked riding trails. Simple to hard. lol they broke me, my 9 month old Mali (Belgium Shephard), oh she hated it, but like the champ she is, we both survived. GREAT TRAILs... SERIOUS TRAILS. Again all marked and color bannor marked to keep you in the right direction. I can get with my friend and see how to contact that XGames dude and get his name.
My name here is DocAldo, #31047, just call me Doug, my number is 775-870-5411, I actually live in Baja. Give me a yell if you would like to do something down here. It is awesome, gass ARCO, BP, 76, and Chevron are all US GASS staandards AND under $4. a gallon. So BAJA is a great solution for the times. Let me know, regardless still would not mind joinoing you and your Sierra Nevada excursion.
So yea, looking to expand my overlanding experance with new people and possibally from groups, aleways better. Especially now days, hopefully good people, like minded. Hit me up if you would like to tryout some routes with the me and my Mexican BlackBird. Sorry thats what call my rig, have not named the PW yet. its getting the Prospector XL when I save up some more $$$. Going to Utah in a week or so to pickup my OBI Dweller15 overland RV with Mark. You are more than welcome to join us. You can meet Mark and he is the one who knows all the trails, he hicks and hamock and tent camps all over the area you aree talking about.
