Surely the Land Cruiser they mean is the 70 series in which case I would expect it to win the tender as it is by far the best work horse of the 3. Either way none of those vehicles are sold in the USA so which ever one wins the tender will also likely make its way onto American roads in its standard civy variant. I know many Americans have wanted the 70 series over there for years so this could be what manes it happen.

I understand the Global supply deal, but you would think a SMART military would insist on something made and mostly sourced at home, just in case we were in a conflict with the Nation building our stuff.........

You already use plenty of equipment which is not home grown and from what I read into the article they are looking for a platform similar to our SAS's perentie LRPVs or G wagon recon variant the former of which i know US SF have liked in the middle east. For the relatively small numbers required for specialised units it makes sense to purchase a pre existing platform rather than spend a fortune developing your own and atm no American manufacturers have a model which really suits these needs.
And I don't know about you but I can't see the US going to war with Japan any time soon.

The only time I saw an ANA danger ranger get stuck was when they drove over c-wire and got it wrapped around the axle. They're good little trucks. And the hilux is everywhere so parts would be easy to aquire when forward deployed.

This must be a common occurrence for them, as I watched members of the same ANA Kandak run over c-wire, and subsequently wrapping it around the axle...... twice in two days.

I also watched (from a distance) members of that same Kandak attempt to pull an IED out of the ground by grabbing it with a grappling hook and towing it with one of their Rangers. Needless to say, that didn't end well.

That's not saying all that much. I love Toyota, I drive one. Our enemies for the last 15 years don't exactly inspire confidence though.
