Hi
Am coming up the Turkish coast to Cappadocia and then on through to the north east of Turkey to cross the border into Georgia. Am on an NZ passport.
Is there anything I need to be aware of, going through eastern turkey?
Is the border crossing into Georgia, easy enough? Do you recommend a particular boder crossing?

With thanks

Hi Pete,

I am just back from a 3months trip through that region.

I have also been to the southeast and east of Turkey. Mardin, Lake Van, Ararat, etc. Be aware that there are travel warnings from the foreign offices for parts of the region. I felt comfortable and safe everywhere. But everyone should inform themselves in advance, weigh this up carefully for themselves and make decisions.

The borders with Georgia are straight forward. Have a look at the OB Map. I have created numerous POIs on the tour there - including for the border crossings, information and where you can get the necessary insurance, i.e. border policies. It is compulsory to get a vehicle liability insurance for Georgia. You can get it as usual at the border, where it is a little more expensive, there are also official offices a little further on, e.g. in the direction of Batumi - I have also entered this as a POI.

If you need any further information, just let me know.

Safe travels,
Bjoern

P.S. I'm moving this thread to the regional Asia forum to make it easier to find.

Are you using the App? Then you will see several subforums here when you go to 'by category'. Just go to Overland Bound by region and pick the region then.

Cheers
