I have a 2014 F250 4x4 with 6.2l gas engine and used to have a Lance 830 camper until recently. I was right at the max weight and it was way too heavy for the truck off road. Yes I could go on decent dirt roads for improved camp sites or popular lakes but for anything more adventurous it had way too much sway. I do have a Hellwig swaybar, airbags, adjustable Rancho shocks, and Torquelift Stableloads. Also need to cinsider the max height and width of many campers. Certainly going with some of the newer campers (e.g. AT Overland) makes a lot of sense. For now I am going with a CVT tent over the bed of the truck.

Yeah, the 830 is way too much weight and unnecessary room. The campers I'm considering are a full 1000# lighter. About the same width as the truck, jacks barely clear the body.

That sounds a lot better but don't forget to add in all the "wet" weight items and your gear as well. Finding something a fair bit south of 2000# would be my recommendation if you want to do any four wheeling with it. Best wishes on your quest.
