Looking for an RTT for our 2019 outback .. Have been able to climb in quite few including CVT ( an Oregon Favorite) , Tepui , And freespirt. Was doing research and ran across a Canadaian company Treeline . Does anyone have any experiences with these tents . We are looking at possibly their 2-3 person 3 season Joshua tent .

Would also be curious to know what other Subie owners have on their rigs when it comes to RTT’s and why you chose the one you did ..

Thanks in advance,,

I don't have a Subaru, but I do have a Tracker which isn't much bigger, and probably lighter than your outback. Since I have a small/underpowered rig, I put a lot of emphasis on compact/lightweight items. For this reason, I went with the Yakima Skyrise 2 RTT. Its dimensions are 42x48 folded up, and it only weighs 95 lbs. I also appreciate the quick (and lockable) connect/disconnect mounting feet. These were a great deal when REI carried them, but unfortunately, it seems REI has recently dropped all Yakima RTTs, and only carry Tepui. Lots of other online stores still have them , but you're going to have to pay full retail of $1000 to get one now.
I've used mine twice so far, both times with my wife, and both times in pouring rain. (Cause that's all it ever does anymore.) I have no complaints. It's comfy enough and roomy enough for the two of us, and stays dry in heavy rain. I also bought the annex for it to add some square footage to the setup. You can easily fold up the tent with the annex attached. No need to remove it every time.

Might look at Overland Pros Anza 1400 as well. It's about the same size as the medium Yakima, 112lbs, it's cheaper by about $300, and it seems to offer the same amenities.

@JeffnMar , congrats on the tent purchase! Let us know how you end up liking it!

Out of curiosity, what did you think of the FSR tents? I'm looking at replacing my Tepui Autana with their hardshell power Adventure Series tent, mainly for the faster, easier setup.

The free spirit tents were nice at least the ones we looked at, they didn’t have any hard shell or the automatic set up when we were in the show room. Construction looked really good and on these tents , I like how they had the support bars on the outside just giving you a little bit cleaner look on the inside. The reason we didn’t go with free spirit was because of the obstructed view of the skylight windows with the rain fly on.After talking to a couple salesman as well the free spirit and the Tepui were pretty neck and neck just deciding on what features you wanted. I lead myself more toward the free spirit as I liked the look and design , But both are designed for what they are used for.

Great feedback @JeffnMar ...totally appreciate that. I also like that clean interior look on the FSR's. They do seem to be very well constructed. It's the hardshell and power top that really gets my attention. Literally just push a button on a remote and it opens and closes itself. Did you already get your Treeline? You have your first outing planned yet?

I receive my treeline this Thursday I have to schedule an appointment with the delivery company. Going in this week to get upgraded bars for my Subaru outback and I don’t have any plans with in the next week or two to take it out might just set it up in my front yard :-). The one thing I like about the tree line and the other fold out type tents is the footprint. We ended up going with the 72 inch wide by 96 inch deep tent where some of the hardshell rooftops don’t have that large of a footprint, or none we could put on our outback anyway . From what we could tell , the The free spirit was very well-made and it’s at the top of the line like CVT and Tepui , just a matter of taste and what you’re looking for in a tent.

Free spirit is out of Bend Oregon which is about 2 1/2 hours away from where we live, very good reputation and seem to be very well-built, not one of those Chinese knock off’s like every other tent you see.I also really like the color scheme with the black and gray and I must say in the inside of the tent we tried out I believe it had a 3 inch pad that was waterproof and black really sharp.

I highly recommend getting in a few other tents to see the different build quality and how comfortable they are , night and day difference in some.
