Hi there,

We will be travelling around the US, and we have a 6” lifted ram 1500 without any other mods.

We are from Canada where this is legal.

I am just wondering if anyone has experience with travelling the states in a lifted truck. Are we exempt from lift laws in each state because we reside in Canada where it is legal? Will we be pulled over because of the suspension lift? Will there be any issue crossing the border?

many thanks!

As long as the truck sits level, and you aim your headlights down nicely, you'll be fine.

Many people forget to aim their lights after lifting. It's like driving with high beams on. Caused many head on collisions. And you will be pulled over for it.

Blue states will have headlight and bumper height laws that you won't pass. Beware fender coverage laws. I doubt Canada plates will help much, once you get one warning. But if you drive like an adult, most cops will look the other way.

It might also be wise to have covers for your offroad lights.

I'm on 37s on my Power Wagon and have been to many states from Massachussetts to North Dakota and Utah, and to NB,Ontario and Saskatchewan, Canada without any issues from law enforcement or at the border
The thread of my tires don't stick out past my fender flares
I know in Utah you're required to have mudflaps, but law enforcement doesn't seem to go after out of state vehicles about it,and I've been there several times

I can't tell you anything about the boarder crossing. There are lifted trucks all over the Western United States. If you are driving responsible and not drawing attention to yourself, I don't see why you would have any issues.
