Planning a trip for May with our 2 month old son ( I suppose he will be 6 months old by then). We are renting a yurt at a campground so that we can heat it if it gets too cold or rains. We usually do a lot of hiking on our trips so one of us will end up with a baby strapped to the front of us. We want to do a northern Ontario loop at some point and we are going to get the young lad used to camping early lol. I had the same upbringing and was camping in my parents tent in snow when I was 2 months old. I don't see too many people on here mentioning babies but i cant be the only one.

My parents took us out to the middle of nowhere at all ages, even before I could remember. I've been to yellowstone with no memories of it :(

I dont have children now, but bring my 3 furbabies everywhere I go.

I've been really excited to get my son involved with nature and camping because it has been a huge part of my life. I am also excited to teach him a few things about vehicles, even though by the time he is old enough to learn they will likely all be electric lol

The sooner the better!

I know plenty of people who have never been camping, which makes me sad.

But then again, I dont like to go and find that the campground is full of people, especially those that dont want to be there.

When I have kids (GF is bugging me), they are going camping as soon as possible.
I want them to have the same experiences I did, and maybe have a love for it when they're adults.

Both of mine have been camping with us as soon as the wife was comfortable enough to go camping.
Good to hear! So I'm not the only one taking a baby out camping with me lol. I have to figure out when my wife will be comfortable putting him in the back or my LJ but that may take some time. The Compass will get a workout this year!

Mine giggle and say its bumpy. If I remember right we had them out by 3 months old. Just don't plan on keeping up a hard pace. Travel easy and take breaks to play and explore with them.
Ya that's one thing I am going to have to get used to. Its not as bad when I have my wife with me but when I am out solo I boogie out to camps quick. Usually after work with a 2-2.5 hour drive to get to the trail head and then another hour to get in to a spot and hope its not taken. Having a kid has seemed to slow me down a little bit though because it takes a long time to do anything lol.

I think our youngest was 18mos when we finally decided it was time to take the lot of them camping. Keeping Momma happy (in this case, not worried) is the hardest part. The little one will take it all in stride. For all they know you should have been taking them camping from day one.

While you may want to let them explore, for Mom's sake you may need to keep tighter boundaries for a while. At 6 mos that shouldn't be too hard, but as they get more mobile and quicker you will need to work at it.

Expect some extra stress the first few times, but know that it will diminish over time.

My oldest was about 18 months when I took him on a trip to the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, etc. He started walking at an early age and by 18 months he was all over the place so I had a harness on him with a leash...that way he could explore, but I could also reel him in quickly. A 6 month old won't be mobile to get into trouble but I'm sure a 6 month old can certainly feel the good vibe of bonding with parents and nature...very cool that y'all are doing that with him.
