So it looks like there is serious interest in running this route when the weather warms up. I have been researching the route and camping options along the way as to be prepared as possible. For those that are not familiar with the route, it is 50/50 paved and gravel/sand roads. There are plenty of things to see along with way which I planned on doing (waterfalls, lookout towers, Delta Dinner). I have thrown around a couple of options as far as getting going on the trail.
Option 1#:
18th: Leave Chicago drive to Wildcat Campground (State Park requires sticker) or Leone Valley. This will be a full day in the trucks.
19th: Rally to Chequamegon--Nicolet National Forest plenty of camping options
20th: Hit up the Delta Dinner and finish the route at Detour Park campground
21st: Take in the views of Lake Superior and explore / head back to Chicago
Option 2#:
17th: Leave Chicago and camp at Palace Campground in Galena
18th: Run to Wildcat Campground or Leone Valley
19th: Rally to Chequamego --Nicolet National Forest plenty of camping options
20th: Hit up the Delta Dinner and finish the route at Detour Park campground
21st: Take in the views of Lake Superior and explore / head back to Chicago
Lets make this happen!!
