ive personally watched at least 5 friends hydrolock engines in the southeast, and have had my jeep deep enough for water to be within a few inches of the intake, so I for one will definitely be snorkeling it soon.
Yes, it may be costly, and could I avoid deep water crossing? yes, but im not the type to take the easy path. Ill probably only need it a handful of times in the jeeps lifetime, but IMO, its one of those "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" situations.
and jeeps suck at venting the engine bay, so anything to lower the air temp going in is a win-win
