On this day 79 years ago, the Bantam Reconnaissance Car was delivered to the US Army Vehicle Test Center at Camp Holabird, Maryland. It would eventually be developed into the Ford GPW & Willys-Overland MB.
While this might be the base example for what would become many long range, 4x4 vehicles, the 1928 Ford Model A House Car would be one of the 1st built "vehicle dependant" overland rigs. There is an even earlier version that a family used to travel the world in, just can't remember the name.
