Hello everyone! Setting up a trip from Moab, Utah back east to the Georgia traverse. We will be arriving at Moab on the June 18, 2018 and exploring the area for a few days then it’s off to Imogene Pass and through the middle section of the trans America Trail (TAT). The trip is expected to take two weeks. Join us at any point during the trip. I will be posting routes and destination schedules soon!

So far it’s myself (4Runner) and a few others another 4Runner and a Jeep. Planning is going well and will be as detailed as possible. The full route should be completed the end of the month with all the stops and POI’s.

Made it to Moab and started the TAT back to Georgia.

1. Lessons learned.

- Extra fuel is not an option, you shall carry extra fuel at least 10 gallons once you reach western Colorado.

- Tools are not an option. Get a set and keep it accessible. Use a tool roll or bag. I kept mine behind the drivers seat. The high lift jack is not for show. Get one and learn how to use it. You need steel bumpers or sliders to use it. The high lift jack will not work on stock anything unless you are really good at body work.

- Cooler vs refrigerator. Still anyone’s preference but a cooler will work as you will see civilization frequently.

- Weight is the great equalizer so watch your weight by only carrying what you need not what you think would make you comfortable. Upgraded springs will be needed if don’t watch your weight. Go by a truck stop and weigh your vehicle.

- Water water water. Do not play with water shortage. You will need to drink more than you realize.

- 4Runner skids and sliders is a must.

- first aid kit and bug repellent ( including Bear spray)

- out West fuel was 85 octane for regular. Most vehicles require 87+. Calculate the increase in fuel costs from Colorado on.

- Solar panels and a battery can bring some nice comforts but watch the weight. Solar came in handy for charging gps devices. You actually lose power with maximum brightness using gps and cellular service while charging.
- Yes WiFi does help with accuracy even though there isn’t any WiFi available.

- Watch your maps closely. It’s easy to miss a turn.

- skid plates. If your new go with steel if you have been doing this for a while you can get by with aluminum. This also falls under the watch your weight.

- take your time there is a lot to see and do. Sleep is essential so if your traveling in the summer months stop early because it will be super hot and the amount of energy you will burn will beat you down. ( eat and drink )
