Got more done, though it doesn’t look like much to me. :expressionless:

1) I had to redo a section of the uppper drawer where the sliders attach underneath to make it stronger. That took 1.5 hours to change as I basically had to disassemble the entire sliding drawer.
2) I painted my panels a bright blue, loved it, then hated it, then went navy. Painting takes forever and not my favorite.
3) Sizing the panels and notching the corners to allow for different connectors was LOADS of fun, but it got done.

As I’ve designed this myself I don’t really have a guide on how it gets assembled. Screws go in and I realize screws gotta come out based on the sequence in which the pieces have to go together. I mounted the upper sliders and now I need to devise a way to attach the coffee table lifts to hardpoints. My previous drawer was all 1/2” plywood so you could just screw anywhere to make it work. But this drawer has more of a skeleton so I’ve got to construct hardpoints that match up with where the hinges need to be.

Slow but coming along, regardless it’s fun to me try to figure it all out. Except the painting, I don’t like painting. So much so I’ve repeated myself. I am now my father.

I prefer the bright blue, I think you should redo it........

JK, I actually like this more subdued colour better.
Each progress post has this drawer looking better and better.

(This project has trashed my back patio)

Took FOREVER but I got my supports for the coffee table lifts fabbed. I used 1/2” square tube, tapped the very edge of the extruded aluminum uprights, and used truck bed liner to paint them.

This Dometic Sink/burner combo doesn’t come with a template so I had to make my own, that’s my next step. Clearance underneath is good

The cutting board will pull out sideways and there’s enough clearance right hereBBD9BAC4-EAE1-4915-9D5E-7AF8A8A066C4.jpeg

Ok so yesterday was good as it’s finally starting to really come together. Trying to get it done by Friday for an Overland Bound trip I’m leading which currently has about 12 rigs. I’m excited
:)

(My back patio will be clean eventually)

Got the sink/burner top unit installedB65B3358-AAEC-4A6B-BC01-15860ED7CA62.jpegD5B439F3-AD56-41D8-99AE-CCCBBBC0F347.jpeg

My plan is to still use 1 lb propane tanks that I screw into the bottom when the drawer is open and I am cooking.

Last night I worked on my bed mount. The drawer will attach to sliders that are screwed onto the plywood. When the drawer fully extends it wants to tip over so I anchored 1/2” bolts in the rear to catch the mount. I will at a steel plate to keep the wood from deforming.

Well I just got back from the Overland bound Lost Coast trip. I was very pleased with how the drawer worked and its functionality in addition to being lighter than my previous version. The drawer is about 90% done as I still need to hook up electrical for the lights and sink actuated water pump

That is so darn cool. Great set up! I would love to commission you for a similar set up for my truck.

Thanks. It’s been so much work figuring it out and building I don’t think you’d want to pay what I’d have to charge :tonguewink:

Looks like it worked well for you. How much does it weigh in at?

I am not exactly sure. I’d say empty maybe 80-100lbs when I lifted it. The sliders are the heaviest part, and there’s 2 sets, one of which is only 30” long though. It is much lighter though than my wood v1 version

Impressive! My 2 drawer 36" drawer 1/2" plywood unit comes in at 150# empty (again the 2 pairs of slides are ~50# of the total) Though that includes the 2 sleeping platforms that cover the rear seats. Thus why I was interested to see what the overall weight was for your new setup.

Great work on the design!

@geekyadam
You have a picture of that sleeping platform with the seats down?
Sure. The platform is based on the free plans from @TheAdventureIndex (https://theadventureindex.com/shop/) which I modified to fit my needs. (one of the mods was to add the sleeping platforms.)
Here ya Go:
Showing the front of the box with the platform supports in place (platforms stored on top of box):
2018_132811.jpg

2nd row seats flipped down and Passenger side platform in place:
2018_132836.jpg

View from Rear Hatch with Passenger Side platform in place:
2018_132906.jpg

View from Drivers rear door showing that I should have made the platforms about 2" longer. They work fine but I need to move the front seats back a bit to ensure that back seat bottoms don't compress allowing the front lip of the platform to fall forward. Doing it this way saved me $80 using up existing cutoffs and not buying another sheet of plywood:

Here are a few Sketch Up renders of what I built (Click through for full size):
