I figured I would start this before I get too deep into the build and can't recall when I did all my mods. I'd consider myself an intermediate level overlander. I've been driving offroad and 4x4's since I was a kid and spent alot of my time outdoors growing up. I've had a bunch of vehicles in the past 5-6 years. Started with 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees, Got a JK on 40's and then started on the Toyota train. My most previous build was a 2006 Locked Sr5 DCSB Tacoma with armor and a RTT and some additional goodies. Unfortunately it was totalled in October of 2019 and I ended up with a 01 Civic LX as a daily driver. I was out of a car payment but wanted another tacoma. So on July 11, 2020 I brought home my "new to me" 2016 DCLB Tacoma. Another SR5......I wanted a TRD OR model but couldn't find one reasonably priced in the area so I settled for the truck pictured below. The goal for the build is the ultimate longbed overland rig. Everything from your normal suspension, tires, and armor to a rooftop tent, re-gearing, lockers, fridge and hot water heater. I want a completely self reliant truck for what I'm going to be doing with it. It's not daily driven but I do still have to pay for it. So anyone who says SAS it or go to 35's, those mods may come at a later date but having only made 1 payment on it, I'm not looking to chop half the wheel wells and lose my inner fender liners with 35's right now. The mod list is below. If its GREEN, its already done . If its YELLOW its been ordered and I'm waiting for it to arrive. If it's RED its a future mod.

I'm sure the build will always be evolving. Not much has been shipping due to long backorder times due to COVID so my impatience is getting the best of me. I will update and post more pictures as we go. I don't have a bunch of pictures of the truck or things I have instlled but I will be sure to add them to the thread as I take them. Any questions about the build let me know. I'm still looking for a name for the build. MAy have to make it #Casper2.0

Every vehicle I've owned has had tinted windows and this one is no different.....5% all the way around with a strip on the windshield. I also have a 3year old GSD that goes everywhere with me so the tint serves a purpose to keep him cool when I go inside somewhere and he stays in the vehicle with the A/C running.

First weekend trip to Uwharrie, a week after purchase

image5.jpeg

This was when I changed out the fogs and low beams to LEDs
image7.jpeg

Trip I took last weekend all through and around Old NC HWY 105 up to Blowing Rock and Boone that tracked over 200+ miles on the dirt

The previous owner put a black adhesive hood scoop on the truck, and I have yet to get around to finding a way to get the leftover adhesive off the hood where it once was.

If you have any suggestions about the build let me know. If you have any advice, let me know. I loook forward to it being a great build, and for it to be ready to drive cross country next October to Colorado for 14 days.

Mounted up some 285 Duratracs I got for a killer deal used today! and some 1.5" spacers I picked up brand new from a guy local for $80. They are hubcentric and will do the trick for now until I can get my hands on some SCS Ray 10's

Start out with some heat from a hair dryer and try to get the bulk of the tape and adhesive off then use a soft cloth and WD40 or Glue Gone stuff and elbow grease to remove the rest

Next up is some sliders, and a front bumper. Will be adding pictures shortly

If you still have that adhesive on the hood, use either Goo Gone from teh spray bottle (it's a gel and sits on the adhesive better to work) or a 3M Rubber Eraser Wheel (chucks into a drill and works beautiful and FAST! Just don't press it too hard into the paint and burn it. Once your done, wash the hood and wax it and it'll look like new!).

I will be sure to try the eraser wheel! Thanks!

I did my 1998 Ford Explorer with one - THE WHOLE TRUCK! LOL I was covered in dust from the eraser. But, it cleanly removed the stick-on pinstripe from the whole vehicle and the stick on rubber chrome wheel well opening trim that sticks on with adhesive.
