There are ones you have to splice then ther are ones you just stick the loop in the hole and install a pin with a circlip there is also one you put the loop in and secure it with the shackle. Mine is the second option no splicing.
Ahh, yes. The Smittybilt one just has a pin with a snap ring. However--I'd still need to remove the winch hook that's on there now. I'd rather unsplice/resplice than cut it off.

Should have looked like this hook, i wouldnt trust any other type the one you have looks like its for an atv.
It came eye-spliced onto the winch rope straight from Smittybilt. The winch is 12k, so I'd guess the rope and hardware are supposed to be rated some factor above that.

Dont count on it especially with smittybilt, the same 3/8 line can be on a number of winches ranging from 9k up(any brand). This is why whenever i get a new winch any brand i ditch the stock cable and get my own with a rating around 20k or up . I dont like guessing and worrying about it. Same with hooks and shackles if they dont have A working load imprinted on it somewhere i wont use it. I alway go over on the lines and accessories because if something were to break id prefer the winch itself to break.
